Their name was spelled the name as "HOSKIN" in those earliest censuses, but by the time my ancestor got to Illinois, it starts being spelled all kinds of ways. In fact, I thought it was "Haskins" for more than 30 years and only recently found that "HOSKINS" was the spelling in all the records there. My ancestor, Roswell HOSKIN, was born in Litchfield Co., CT. He married there and went to NY. By the time he came to Ohio, his cousin had also settled in Morgan Co., directly from CT. Roswell's oldest child was born in CT; the rest were born in NY. Roswell HOSKIN was son of Joseph HOSKIN and Eunice COE. The generations before Joseph are very well documented on other people's websites, but it is true that the repetitive names and varied spellings make it hard to follow.
