He is found in Redstone, Fayette Co, PA on 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830 then of course he dies. I did locate some information in the bio cyclopedia for Fayette County. The bios were for Abel Colley and S.W. Colley. It was in the Searight W. Colley bio that it indicated he was born on a ship that crossed the Atlantic from Ireland to the U.S. So that much is confirmed. Then I found something on the List of inhabitants of Washington County, Pa 1800 or before (Names on the 1776-80 Petitions): There is a Peter Colley and a Peter Colly. It doesn't break out the years they signed but it is a general compilation of the time. So earlier than 1810, information may be found in Washington County, PA. In 1790 census of Virginia I found a James Colley in Pittsylvania with 5 family members. After finding the index for this census I found 9 Colleys listed (including James Colley). They are: Colley, Bartlett, Pittsylvania Co., 6 people. Colley, Bridget, Norfolk Co.,5 people Colley, Charles, Hanover Co., 6 people, 12 slaves Colley, Edward, Mecklenburg, 16 people Colley, Francis, Norfolk Co.,3 people Colley, James (same as above), Pittsylvania Co., 5 people Colley, James Sr., Pittsylvania Co., 9 people Colley, William, Norfolk Co., 8 people, 1 dwelling, 5 outbldgs Colley, Zacharias, Albemarle Co., 5 people The above are all the Colley people in Virginia in 1790. 1790 Menallen, Fayette Co., PA: Peter Cawley 2 m under 16 1 m over 16 5 f total (no age separation) 1785 Botetourt Co.,VA census: Isaac Colley, 8 people George Colley, 4 people As far as passenger lists go, the following is up for scrutiny: Name: Peter Chaille Year: 1754 Place: Maryland Source Publication Code: 1243 Primary Immigrant: Chaille, Peter (Maybe they misspelt the name?) In an article titled: To Maryland from Overseas is the following entry for Colley: "Peter Colley of Talbot Co. was naturalized in 1694 by an act of the General ASsembly." Maryland Archives, vol. 19, page 211. There are many Colleys listed on the Australian convict transports and the Criminal Registers of England. In the book Emmigrants to PEnnsylvania, In the Servants and Apprentices bound and assigned before James Hamilton Mayor of Philadelphia 1745 (Passengers per snow George, Campt. Ambler) Oct. 5, 1745 Edward Dowers assigns Michael Colley, (a servant from Ireland on the ship Bolton, Capt. Edward Dowers), to serve Thomas Bailey and his assigns four years from Oct. 4, 1745. Consideration 16 pounds....to have customary dues. pg 56 John Colly late of Sauiour Southwork in old England feltmaker came came in the Eliza & Mary, John Bowman, Master? arrived here July 22 1683. pg. 8 Looks like that is all I can find. There are some Colleys in Norfolk. You would have to check that area to see if there are perhaps any wills you could get copies of. Most ship lists begin around 1800 and up. There are very few that cover 1757 so don't think I can help there. Hope this helps in some way. Leslyn Lang Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
