    3. Hey Everyone... I just joined this Civil War Network, and already started to contribute to it. If you have an ancestor that was in the Civil War, please visit this site and register. Its free. Ohio In The Civil War Network A historical research community, network & collaborative archive. http://historicalpreservation.org/civilwar/ohio/ DEB PS.... Hopefully soon, the Fallen Civil War Soldiers of Washington County, Ohio (Partial list. Abt. 624 men) will be back online. Its a database that I did back in 2005. I am currently re-formating it and getting it ready to send to Ernie Thode to be put on the Wash. Co OGS site. I'm abt. 1/2 way finished and the way I'm editing it, will be much more easier to read. Hope to have it completed by the first week of January 2009. Below is a sample of how it's being re-done. For those of you who are familar with the database, remember that I got the names entirely from Williams' History of Washington Co., Ohio. Knowing that many of them did not have the correct or all info, I did an ADDENDA using my own internet & hard copy resoures, which is included at the end of the database. If a field is left blank, that means, that Williams History did not give the info. The research done, will be included in the addenda "if" I was able to find it. Once I send it to Ernie, it will be up to him in deciding how to put it on the Wash. Co. OGS website. [Probably by township] This will come to the LIST via TEXT email. The ADDENDA will be put in italic print when submitted to Ernie. If a field is left blank, that means, that Williams History did not give the info. 3. Ancestry, I don't know what I was searching but suddenly I am looking at a Shepard genealogy with Sarah Wright and Jacob Shepard. It confirmed my guesses about Shepards living in Lowell, I puzzled for years about Elizabeth and her two daughters, sure they were her daughter in law and granddaughters. Elizabeth was the widow of Luman born a Hopp she later married Augustus Wayne Sprague, one daughter married a Mason who was killed very shortly after and much later the other daughter married her step brother <>G don't ya love it. 3. WOW!!! Eliz....Appears you struck gold! Where is this goldmine? I need to strike gold too when it comes to my NOLAND clan having connections with this Robert Carter III, in Virginia who was the first and biggest slave emancipator in the late 1700's / early 1800's. Robert Carter III is one of Henry Burkes ancestors because Robert II fathered a son by a African-American slave, and had Baptist Billy, whom Robert III often referred to him as his "brother" in several documents in Fairfax, Westmoreland Co., Virginia. This Robert Carter III's son was Landon Carter, he had a HUGE slave plantation. The land adjoing his, what that of Francis Awbrey, another wealthy huge slave plantation owner that at one time owned thousands of acres adjoing the Carter plantation (Leo). These were all (including Carters, Noland's, Awbrey's) friends and neighbors of General George Washington. Conections have been made with them all when it comes to the House of Burgess. This Francis Awbrey, was the father of Elizabeth Awbrey who married my ancestor Philip Noland, who came to Wood Co., Virginia, and eventally settled in Decatur Twp., Washington Co. and Francis Awbrey had another daughter, Sarah, who married Pierce Noland, uncle of my Philip Noland. - I believe too, that my NOLAND's are also connected to the Lewis, and the Tanners somehow in Wood Co., as well as someother early settlers of Wood County, Virginia....and all this land that used to belong to General George Washington is also connected. So....................this is WHY I need to HIT the genealogy lottery!!! Gotta find those Fairfax and Westmoreland county records that will proove the CLUES that i have collected. Sometimes these NOLAND's even have my head spinning just as fast as the MASON, SPRAGUE's of Lowell do. With the Mason families, there are way too many William's. And with the Noland's there are way too many Philips and Pierce's. lol Debbie Noland Nitsche [email protected] Historical Marietta, Ohio on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/historicalmariettaohio ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eliz Hanebury" <[email protected]> To: "ohwashin" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, December 16, 2008 2:59 PM Subject: [OHWashin] The Shepard genealogy SHEPARD Jacob and WRIGHT Sarah > Well, Ancestry has finally answered all my question about my Grandmother > Sarah WRIGHT SHEPARD RANSOM DAVIS - A very loud yehaaaaa coming from > Lancaster Co Pa <G> > http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=BookList&dbid=24065&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 > > Don't be surprised to see it again, I think I will post it to the board > just > to get it there.. Harriet married Samuel S Brown (s/o Jesse Brown and Relief Story) of Waterford 8 Feb 1834. All four died and are buried in the Coal Run area. Any help is greatly appreciated. 3. Sheila... At first I thought "HUH???" Then I got it!! Duh!!! Ha ha.... There's always humor when it comes to last names. I've often told my hubby, that he should of had his name changed to Noland when we got married. Much easier to pronounce. Nitsche is pronounced "Nit-she" Most people can't get it right. I'm either called, Nikskie, Nish, Nitski, or someother dumb name. ha ha There are LOTS of names here in Philly that I don't even try to pronounce. Why can't they be like the ones we hear of from Ohio? lol Here's another funny one, about my family history.... Roger Conant, the founder of Salem, Massachusetts is my 11th Gr. Grandfather. Nathaniel Parke is my 9th Gr. Grandfather. He had a sister by the name of Dorothy Parke. She was Lady (Princess) Diana Spencer's 9th Gr. Grandmother. Because of this....I always say that I don't suffer from PMS. It's in my genes. I can be a WITCH one minute and a PRINCESS the next. ha ha ha. Most people say: Yea! Right. NOT" lol Just had to add that in there. lol DEB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheila Gurr" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 14, 2008 10:39 AM Subject: Re: [OHWashin] Washington County, Ohio Historical & Genealogy Newsletter, Archives > Debbie, > What did I do to upset you into calling my name, GURR? <g> > > Actually, thank you for all your hard work on the site. > > Sheila Jaynes Gurr > > > Original Message: >> ------------------------------ >> >> Date: Fri, 12 Dec 2008 15:11:38 -0500 >> From: "Debbie Noland Nitsche" <[email protected]> >> Subject: [OHWashin] Washington County, Ohio Historical & Genealogy >> Newsletter Archives >> To: "Washington Co LIST" <[email protected]> >> Message-ID: <[email protected]> >> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; >> reply-type=original >> >> The Washington Co. 3. Thanks, Debbie, for the information you have on the list for Washingon Co. I did find something that really surprised me but I am not sure what it really is. It has a Howard Wellspring, Jr. list in the list for burials. My brother was Howard Wellspring, Jr. but he was 5 years older than I and he lived to be in his seventies and died in Lawton, OK. So I am wondering who this Howard Wellspring Jr. might be. My father was Howard Wellspring but I never knew another Howard in the family.
