Marietta sure has its share of heartache, as 2 former teachers passed away this week..... First, Robert Patterson. He used to be the American History Teacher at the Marietta Junior High School (now known as the Marietta Middle School) Second, George Garretson, a former 6th Grade teacher at Phillips Elementary School. George was a teacher under Warren Howard, principal back in the 1970's. He was well known for his 6th Grade Science Field Trips throughout Washington County, and the advisor of the 5th/6th grade Safety Patrol in the school. You can read their obituaries at the online edition of the Marietta Times http://mariettatimes.com/page/category.detail/nav/5009/Obituaries.html I had both teachers when I went to school. George Garretson was also my neighbor when I lived on Greene Street as a teenager. I was just talking about him during my conversation with Warren Howard a few weeks ago. We were reminising about the good ole days of Phillips School and told Warren abt. the time I ran over George's flower bed with my Dad's car, right after I got my driver learners permit. lol At first, I didn't think George seen me, but I was wrong. My guilt got the best of me, so I had to come clean and let him know that it was me that smached all the flowers to the ground. Then I helped him for the next two weeks getting it all back in order. Both will be sadly missed. Debbie Noland Nitsche [email protected] Historical Marietta, Ohio on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/historicalmariettaohio

I believe that these people are all buried in Cedarville Cemetery. I did a powerpoint presentation on Cedarville Cemetery a few years back. Also had pics of headstones that was once on the Hometown AOL site but is not longer availible. I'm in the process right now of getting it formatted so I can add it to youtube as a video, and also add the pics to the historical Marietta, Ohio MySpace site. This will take a couple of days for me to complete transforming everything to jpeg files, then uploading them to the site. I'll make an announcment through the LIST once its online. Depends when your relatives migrated. Many moved north for more fertile farm land and later for industrial jobs.
