My father, who was b. in 1920, always felt that they had been Quakers before coming on to Iowa - we thought it was from the Marsh line but it could have been from both the Marsh and Lewellen's. Through Civil War records I know that William was b. in Loudon Co., VA 1823, and d. 1863 Vicksburg, MS. Lucinda was b. circa 1828/1830 OH, and d. 1890 Corydon, Wayne, IA. Recently I discovered their marriage was 12 Nov 1846 Belmont County, OH. Lewellen was spelled Luwellen on the certificate. Their children were: John Nelson Lewellen b. 1847 Cincinnati, Hamilton, OH, d. 1913 Corydon, Wayne, IA, wife Annie M. Hand. Sarah E. Lewellen b. 1849 OH, d. circa 1860. George Washington Lewellen b. 1852 Marietta, Washington, OH, d. 1929 Portland, OR, wife Mary Maria Marsh [my great-grandparents]. Anna Melissa Lewellen b. 1855 Pattonsburg, Davies, MO, d. 1892, husband John Ryan. Wm. M. R. "Marion" Lewellen b. 1859 Corydon, Wayne, IA, d. 1886, Corydon, Wayne, IA. It is assumed that Jesse and Sarah Lewellen are William T. Lewellen's parents, but I have no proof. As far as Lucinda's parents go, I have nothing, except maybe Belmont Co., OH Phillips' could be kin. After my g-g-grandfather's death, Lucinda m/2 Wiley Boswell and had two more children, Gilbert and Wiley "Ammon" Boswell. I have the death certificate for Ammon Boswell, he d. 1931 Castle Rock, Jasper, MO. It states his father's name on the certificate, but unknown for his mother's information. Annon's wife's name was Alice Amanda Woodard Boswell, her father was Joseph Woodard. A few of the records I have for the William T. and Lucinda Lewellen family and the Jesse and Sarah Lewellen family are as follows: 1840 census Harrison, Muskingum, OH - Jesse Lewellen 1850 census Harrison, Muskingum, OH - Jesse, Sarah, Harrison, John R., Daniel, Isaac Lewellen 1850 census Ludlow, Washington, OH - William T., Lucinda, John N., Sarah E. Lewellen 1856 census Corydon, Wayne, IA - Jesse, Sarah, Harrison, Isaac Lewellen 1856 Jesse Lewellen purchases land in Wayne Co., IA 1860 census Corydon, Wayne, IA - Jesse, Sarah, Lewellen and on the same page William T. and Lucinda Lewellen, AND on the same page Jesse's adult children/families James, Harrison, John R. and Isaac. Jesse and Sarah Lewellen most certainly be William's parents., but who are Lucinda's? and who are Jesse and Sarah's? I have much on this family and am always happy to share.
