Hummm... Interesting! "IF" the age of Elizabeth Woodmancy (Woodmansee) was correct in the 1850 census as 78 yrs. old, she would of been born about 1771. If Joseph Woodmansee died in 1813 at the age of 60 yrs. old, he would of been born about the year of 1753. That would make Joseph about 18 yrs. older than Elizabeth (Betsey). Talk about robbing the cradle. But not unusual back in those days. But...this Mary E. (Woodmansee) Angle, Harriet and Martha Woodmansee (spelled Woodmancy) could not possibly be the children of Joseph and Elizabeth. According to the 1850 census, Mary E. Angle was born abt. 1833; Harriet born abt. 1838; and Martha born about 1846. With knowing this, they must be Joseph and Elizabeth's grandchildren, with the father dying between 1846 & 1850. Correct? Oh boy!!! I can just see Eliz's head spinning again. ha ha Debbie Noland Nitsche [email protected] Historical Marietta, Ohio on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/historicalmariettaohio ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eliz Hanebury" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 15, 2009 1:06 PM Subject: Re: [OHWashin] Beebe/Howard 1850 Census Is is the Griswold <G> what a treasure trove this is http://www.revwar.com/ftgriswold/graves2.html Eliz On Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 12:03 PM, E Robson<[email protected]> wrote: > Debbie ~ (& thanks Eliz) > > Another of the publications included at ancestry brought up more > information relative to Joseph in the Battle of Groton. Debbie ~ (& thanks Eliz) Another of the publications included at ancestry brought up more information relative to Joseph in the Battle of Groton. It stated Joseph's wounds were his (R?) eye and upper cheek. The same piece stated a musket ball had passed under his shoulder blade. I didn't write these down, so this is memory and only remember thinking that shot up as he was he was lucky to be alive. One or another of those publications included lists of the killed, wounded, and those taken prisoner during the battle of Groton Heights. Unfamiliar with Connecticut's RW history I was surprised to learn that the Connecticut born Benedict Arnold led the British forces in that attack. Curious about the battle I later did some google searches. One result that would interest you can be found at www.revwar.com/ftgriswald/graves2.html It includes information and gravestone inscriptions for those taking part in the battle. Joseph is included. It stated that he was 28 y/o when he was wounded and paroled. The gravestone inscription included his death as Dec 1813 Age 60. (Ft. Griswald or Ft. Griswold? - just in case I erred on the URL) Joseph's death was recorded in the Connecticut Town Marriage Records mentioned earlier. It was included under ancestry's births, marriages, etc section of Historical records. Joseph's death was included on p. 241 of the publication, while the Joseph and Mary Perkins marriage was included on pp 187 and 241 of same. These entries also included the volume and page numbers containing the record. Ella
I found the book that you mentioned. Hummm.... The book states that he was the same Joseph Woodmansee that lost an eye in the massacre at Groton Heights. According to his RW pension information that I found on Heritage Quest Online, he died in 1813. In the 1850 census for Watertown Twp., Richard Beebe has a female by the name of Elizabeth Woodmancy, age 78, born in Connecticut. Does anyone know who she is? I've tried doing research on this woman and can't find anything. Is it possible that she could be Richard's aunt, the sister of Nancy (Howard) Beebe (mother of Richard)?? Her last name could be spelled wrong in the census. I've even tried Elizabeth Wood Manseany and other soundex variations of the last name. Nothing. If her age is correct, she would of been born in 1772. Nancy Howard Beebe (Richard's mother) was born in 1771 in New London, Connecticut. She was the daughter of William Howard and Martha Rogers. They had a daughter by the name of Betsy Howard. Betsy is a nickname for Elizabeth. That's why I'm wondering if this could be Richard's aunt. Heritage is the defining elements of one’s life that tells who they are and how they should live. Heritage then is the profile of our values, priorities and beliefs and rules we are guided by in our daily lives. Our Heritage begins in the life experiences of our ancestors and we will pass them on to our descendents, long after we are gone. Collectively, the heritage of a society gives rise to its culture.

Sorry about that last message, my right hand does not seem to know what my left hand is supposed to be doing. MSV **************************************************************************For those of you who have considered DNA testing as a aid in your family research, this is an excellent opportunity to dip your toe in the water. The 37 marker yDNA test and the HVR1 mtdna test are being offered together at a very reasonable price. Please contact me at [email protected] for the details. The Congleton yDNA project is specifically looking for direct male line descendants of William Congleton of Guernsey County, Ohio, to be tested. William raised his family in Guernsey County, but after his death, his remaining sons moved to Libertyville, Washington County, Ohio, where descendants of this family still live today. The oldest son, John Congleton, has no know male descendants alive today. William’s sons, James Congleton, David Congleton and William Congleton have descendants in the direct male line, still living in Washington County. It would be very helpful to this project if a member of this family joined the project. The project has one member who is believed to descend from William Congleton of Beaufort County, North Carolina. We need a second member of this family to confirm the genetic pedigree of this line. We would also like to have a descendant of Moses Congleton of Brooke County, West Virginia, in the project. A descendant of the Congleton family of Salem and Sussex Counties in New Jersey, would also be a valuable addition to the project. Lastly there is the Congleton family of New York State and Michigan. Descendants of all these families are needed to determine if they all descend from one man, or if they are separate families. This summer sale is a perfect opportunity to fill out the genetic pedigree chart for this family. The sale price is valid from 9 June to 24 June. The test kits must be paid for by 30 June 2009. This project requires administrator approval before you can join. Please write to me at the above address for information on the sale, and also for the requirements for joining the project. The person tested MUST be a direct male line descendant of the immigrant ancestor. Marleen Van Horne Congleton yDNA Project
