    3. Yes there were Chapmans in Marietta (Washington County) with John Chapman being one of them. He was also known as Johnny "Appleseed". At the present I can not think what his parents names were but it is in my information that I do not have with me right now. According to my information he was related to my family. Just what is the Chapman mystery? ----- Original Message ----- From: "MaryLu" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, August 22, 2009 9:46 PM Subject: [OHWashin] Chapman > Loanne in CA: > I am willing to brainstorm with you on your Chapman mystery. > While I am not connected to this line, I have seen "Chapman" mentioned in > Washington County's history. > Is there a way to contact me without going through the "list"? > MaryLu > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > To contact the OHWASHIN list administrator, send an email to > [email protected] > > To post a message to the OHWASHIN mailing list, send an email to > [email protected] > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

This John was still living in 1880 Census, Washington Co., Ohio, and his wife's name was Jane. The only other John that I have that could possibly fit your description is really too young to have been married and in the Civil War by 1861 as he was born in 1844 in Ohio. There are many descendants of my Hoskin/s line in Van Buren Co., IA, and not far away in Missouri and Illinois, but I do not have complete family names for most of these. One clue to follow is the Civil War record for your John -- he probably enlisted in his home county and you might find brothers or uncles in the same unit. 1. [OHWashin] Barnabas La Grange Bible?
    2. Carolyn Heijn Peth
    3. Hello All,   While at the DAR Library in DC last Feb. I came across some info regarding Barnabas La Grange  (1786 New York - 1852 Washington Co Ohio) and his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) Selleck (1789 New York - 1863 Washington Co Ohio).  A family Bible and other documents were mentioned as being in the possession of a Dr A. Howard Smith of Marietta, Ohio.  I do not know the date of this DAR application, but it is from the application of Carolyn La Grange Siems of WV.  Does anyone know who may have this bible now???    Barnabas and his family came to Washington Co about 1820.  I see them in the Federal census for Adams for 1820,30,40,50 but can't find much else.   I am also missing the burial information of Barnabas and Betsy La Grange.  A daughter of theirs, Lydia is buried at Greenlawn, Adams Twp d. 1831.   My ancestor is their daughter Harriet (1811 - 1895) + Samuel S Brown (1807 - 1885)   Thanks for any help, Carolyn Sacramento

Sarah Jane Kelch was born about Feb 1830 in Virginia. Census records show that both her parents were born in Virginia. Sarah Roe Kelch married Basil Roe about 1850. Basil Roe was born about 1830 in Ohio, possibly in Monroe County. Basil and Sarah Roe were living in the household of William Crum on the 1850 Census for Elk Township, Noble County, Ohio. They had one child, son William Roe, born about 1852 in Noble County, Ohio. Basil died between 1850 and 1860. Sarah Kelch Roe then married Samuel Cronin about 1861. They had four daughters (Martha b. 1862, Emily b. 1864, Mary b. 1867, and Charlotte b. 1869) in Washington County, Ohio. Samuel and Sarah Cronin are found on the 1870 Census for Liberty Township, Washington County, Ohio; the 1880 Census for Dalzell Township, Washington County, Ohio; and the 1900 Census for Liberty Township, Washington County, Ohio. Samuel and Sarah Cronin both died in 1906 and were buried in the Dalzell Ridge Cemetery in Washington County, Ohio. Sarah Jane Kelch may have been a daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth Kelch of Tyler County, Virginia. Her son William Roe claimed to have a grandmother with the surname of Perry.
