She lists the father on her two daughters' birth certificates as "Harry Cherry", but we can't find any record of their marriage. Knowing what I know about Maggie, it is likely she didn't get married and may have even made up the father's name. In both cases, the mother is the one giving the information for the birth record. There is a Harry Cherry in Marietta and he is the right age, but he was married to someone else. That doesn't eliminate him as being the father, but it was unlikely that they were married. It is something of a family mystery. Maggie married off her daughters early. My great-grandmother (Maggie's second daughter, Hallie Davis) was married to my great-grandfather in WV when she was 13 and he was 45. I am still looking for Maggie at home in the 1900 census. Have been unlucky so far. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (Yager) Davis, youngest child of Josiah and Huldah Davis (my great great grandparents). In a letter sent by Josiah to one of his brothers, he wrote: "Yager our youngest boy got a divorce from his first wife & is married again." This letter is dated 6 January 1888. Up until that point, we believed that Isaac had been married only once--to Flora E. Bryant, on 2 Feb 1891 in Guernsey Co. This leads my sister and me to believe that Isaac was married a total of THREE times--once before 1888 (and divorced before then), then once in 1888 or just before (and then she either died or they divorced), and then finally to Flora in 1891 (they were still married when Isaac died in 1917 of typhoid). On FamilySearch's pilot site, I have discovered a marriage for an Isaac Y. Davis and a Loretta Snodgrass on 12 Aug 1887 in New Matamoras, Washington Co. Would someone be willing to look up divorce and marriage records for me? I don't need anything on his marriage to Flora as I already have a copy of their marriage license. What I am looking for is info on his other 2 marriages. Any and ALL info is more than appreciated :) Please feel free to e-mail me at mpike@rochester.rr.com. Thank you so much! When might they have gone to Marietta College? These are fairly early catalogs. I googled Decker and "Marietta College" LOL and got 1761 September 8 Greene, George. Agreement of George Greene and Thomas Ashbee to pay Garrit Decker sum of 14 pounds, Virginia currency. Witnessed by E. Byrne. http://library.marietta.edu/spc/FindingAids/Virginia.html Since Rea appears in so many terms, you may have to snoop your self <G> I got all of these catalogs searching "Abner Lord Andrews" so you can find them. Just because I believe him to be a descendant of Abner Lord, and his mother (If I am right) was Marietta born, here is the Obit of artist Eliphalet Fraser Andrews. The only reason I noticed him is that another sister, Betsy Lord married Capt Eliphalet Fraser. He was not with his family in 1850 because he was in Marietta at school with Abner Lord Andrews. March 21, 1915, Sunday Page 15, 982 words New York Times WASHINGTON March 20 - Eliphalet Fraser Andrews, who painted several of the portraits now in the White House including those of Martha Washington and Dolly Madison, died here yesterday. He was born at Steubenville, Ohio, in 1855. He was a graduate of Marietta College and studies art in Europe under Ludwig Knaus and at the Dusseldorf Academy. Under the patronage of the late W.W. Corcoran. Mr Andrews founded the Corcoran School of Art, of which he was the Director from 1877 until 1902. Besides the portraits mentioned his pictures of Jefferson, Buchanan, Taylor, Johnson and Garfield are now hanging in the White House, and a number of his works are preserved in private galleries here and abroad. He was a member of the Metropolitan Club of Washington.

Abner Andrewas was born in Steubenville but his mother was born in Marietta and he came to school here. There are a number of Marietta College books on google including Catalogus Mariettensis 187 and the above mentioned Catalogue. I found a son, Martin Register Andrews I didn't see in 1860 and there also is Eliphalet Fraser Andrews (Phebe Lord Andrews older half sister married Eliphalet Fraser) who I still have to prove is who I think he is <G> Anyway google! see what you find.
