    1. [OHWashin] PAXTON - WATERMAN Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs of Sam PAXTON along with Ralph and Lucy which were taken at the Conner's Studio in Beverly, Ohio. The photographs are identical, though one is more worn than the other. The photograph is of two older women, a man, a younger woman and a small infant. They are pictured in front of a house on the front steps, all seated in chairs. I believe that the photograph was probably taken in the early 1900's. I am guessing that the man is Sam, likely in his 40's or 50's at the time the photograph was taken and Ralph is the infant. Guessing that Lucy is Ralph's Mother, probably a woman in her 20's or 30's. The two older woman who are not named look to be from 60 to 90 years old. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the PAXTON Family: Samuel J. PAXTON was b. 27 Nov 1873 in Morgan County OH to parents Franklin K. PAXTON and Alice HAYNES. Samuel married Carrie Jane WATERMAN (b. 2 Nov 1873 in Watertown, OH) on 27 May 1893 and together they had 4 children including, Laura Beryl; Lucy; Thelma; and Bernice PAXTON all born between 1894 and 1905. Samuel died in Beverly, OH in 1946. Lucy A. PAXTON was b. 21 Nov 1893 in Watertown, OH Census records provide the following information: 1910 census of Waterford Township, OH: Samuel J. PAXTON, age 37, married 17 years, born OH, parents born OH, a Mail Carrier Carrie J. PAXTON, wife, age 36, married 17 years, 4 children/4 living, born OH, parents born OH Lucy A. PAXTON, dau, age 16, born OH Burnice F. PAXTON, dau, age 14, born OH Laura B. PAXTON, dau, age 10, born OH Thelma M. PAXTON, dau, age 5, born OH 1920 census of Waterford, OH: Samuel PAXTON, age 47, born OH, parents born OH, a Mail Carrier Carrie PAXTON, wife, age 46, born OH, parents born OH Elmer PAXTON, son, age 15, born OH Ralph R. PAXTON, grandson, age 5, born OH, parents born OH I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Postings to a county are routed to the mail list of that county and archived. Sometimes a mail list subscriber responds through the list rather than the board where the query was originally posted.(Always a good idea to check mail list archives after posting a query on a board for one of the counties.) In the rootsweb archives for the Washington Co., OH mail list, you'll find a reply to your original query posted to the mail list. This morning it was the last message in the Archives. The subject is "George and Catherine Seibert." You can find the Archived lists by going to http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com. The poster is named Pam and her message responds to your query of where to go in Marietta. She provides the address, phone # and hours of operation of the History and Genealogy Library there. Included in her posting is information on George taken from William's History of Washington Co. that will definitely interest you, including his birth date and place of birth, name of his first wife, number of their children (all sons) and the gender of the 7 children born to second wife. Although no publication date was included for the history, considering the content it is probable the Seibert information in this history was provided by George or Catherine. Author: cactuscr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.washington/1746.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: To begin, the probate courts in Ohio's counties began recording deaths in 1867. I think these early records of death were dependant upon a relative or neighbor, etc. reporting them. Consequently they may not include all deaths. They amount to one line, in a register, going across two pages, as I recall. Death records are something you can probably check while in Marietta. If you use a family history center, these records can be ordered for both Washington and Franklin counties. (FHL filmed records are for 1867 -1908) One question is, where did George die, so... George was a farmer - did he own the land? If so there might be a record of sale by himself or "Heirs of." If George was deceased you might find something in Probate records regarding his estate, and possibly his death. Possibly new information and perhaps your Catherine: (from transcriptions or images at http://labs.familysearch.org) In the 1900 census of Franklin Co., OH, Columbus,Ward 13, ED: 98, Sh: 8, 409 Rest (?) St. (164/17?) was a Catherine Siebert, widowed and head of the household. According to the census she'd given birth to 8 children, 7 of whom were living. She owned her house free of mortgage. Three of the children were in her household. Rosy was listed as 27 ("Mar 1875"), Henry 22 ("Sept 1877"), and Frank 19 ("Oct 1880") They were enumerated on 07 June. There was over-writing and apparent "corrections" in this census so interpretation of some of the numbers may be incorrect. I'm presuming this is your Catherine and because she owned her house free of mortgage, one wonders whether she or George bought it. If nothing is found in Washington Co. regarding George's death, you might find something in the Franklin County land, death and/or probate records A Marriage for "Frank Seibert" included birth year of 1882 with his father listed as "George" and his mother as "Catherine Sipple." He was married 02 July 1907 in Hamilton Co., OH. Although Henry William's DC gives his birth year as 1878 (beta.familysearch.org), his marriage record gives his birth year as 1877. His father is listed as George in the marriage record but the name of his mother was not included. I also wonder if "Tracy" of the 1880 census should have been Treecy or Tareecy as a nickname for Theresa. There is Franklin County death for Theresa Seibert (13 Oct 1889 (bur. 15 Oct) She was 19 years old. Her parents were listed as George Seibert and Catherine Seibert. I don't recall seeing Theresa in Greenlawn Cemetery where Henry and his wife were buried, but I might have missed her. But if not, where-ever she might be, that cemetery might include one or both of her parents. You might also check county histories for any inclusion of George and his family. A bio for one of their children (or biographical date for the spouse of one of their children) might include vital information on George and/or Catherine. I hope this aids you in your pursuit of George and Catherine's death information. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: PamMahowald Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.washington/1746.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for responding. Catherine and George were not married in Marietta. This is what I *think* after looking at some of the census and trees. I need proof. I found a George and Catherine Seibert in a 1870 Census, Derry, Westmoreland, PA. 1860 or 1850 I found a George with another wife named Elizabeth (Elis) with children. Some of those same names and ages match the children in the 1870 Derry Census. I *think* that the 1st wife died and he remarried Catherine Sipple between 1860 & 1869. Mary E. was Catherine's 1st child. They lived in PA until they moved to Marietta. The other children from the 1st marriage would have been old enough to be on their own. I have tried to search records on line in PA and have found that the state is a giant black hole. I will have to use Family Search or travel to the area. I'm not opposed to traveling to do research if I'm confident that I am right. Now I'm back to...where are they buried. You are probably right that the family moved on. According to the 1880 census he was a farmer. I'm trying to check the available records for Washington county and head west toward Columbus. Hopefully I'll find something. I do know that they lived in Warren Twp according to some of the death certificates of some of the children. John, Peter H., Peter and Henry are all buried in Columbus. I have found their graves. Rosanna married and moved to Nebraska. I have found no trace of Catherine or Tracy, nor mention of them in any of my grandmother's papers. I believe they died young. So I have even more bodies to find. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I found this in Williams' History of Washington County: "George Seibert was born in Braden, Germany, January 3, 1822. He emigrated to America, and settled in Pennsylvania, where he remained until 1874, when he settled in Warren Township, Washington county, Ohio." It also states that his first wife was Elizabeth Kaylor, with whom he had five boys. He married a second time in October 1867, but the second wife's name isn't mentioned. This marriage produced three more boys and four girls. He worked as a machinist for 35 years then switched to farming in 1874 after the move to Warren Township. Happy Hunting, Pam in Kenucky

Also I'm hoping someone has some good color pictures of the old rural schools which have been destroyed. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
