Does anyone have the Valley Cemetery Book, Reno, Ohio? Would someone do some look-ups for me? Thanks, Brenda
I have a very loooooooong list of names on people buried at Gravel Bank (Cemetery). This cemetery is located in Warren Twp. off of State Rt. 7, between Marietta and Belpre. To get to the cemetery, travel south on Rt. 7. Turn right on Co. Rd. 10. Make the 1st left hand turn. You will see a white church sitting on a hill on the right. Turn right at the bottom of the hill. Follow this road, to the top of the hill, and it will take you right up to the cemetery. You cannot see the cemetery from the highway (St. Rt. 7). I have been there many times to do research and take photos of headstones. The list is not 100% complete, but does contain MANY surnames, along with personal information about some people There is no way, that I can take on the task of putting on the Internet, because the list is much bigger that the one that I re-transcribed for Salem Cemetery. As most of you know, I do like to type, but doing this list would be insane, and I would be typing for days, if not months. lol I would list all the surnames in this email, but there are too many. Plus, I am working on another cemetery transcription (Mason/Kile). The one I submitted to the Washington Co scioto site, was only a partial list, done in the early 1920's by Mary Eliza Mason. (dau. of William Bion Mason). I now have many more names and dates to add to the list. I just don't want to take on too many tasks all at once. If anyone wants me to do a look-up for any surnames, I can send it to you in an email. I ask you to email me directly at Diamonddeb@comcast.com for your request. Please put "GRAVEL BANK CEMETERY" in the "Subject", so I can be sure that it is safe to open. By emailing me directly, it will avoid jamming the LIST with requests for look ups. Thanks Sue, for doing the lookup for me. That's the info that I have on her too, as being born April 4th 1851. I have MOST of the census for her, but when I was studying the 1900 census, I caught that DOB and age. I thought it was a mistake, which does happen. I will add what the online census states, and then make a notation of what is in Wes Cochran's book. Debbie Noland Nitsche Philadelphia, PA. Hi Debbie. I looked that up on genealogy.com and here's what I think . . . frances' age is 49 and she was born in 1851. I think it's 49 because of the curve on the 9, compared to the numbers he wrote that look like 7's. . . Hope that helps. . . .Pat

Please remember that the RootsWeb lists are for Genealogy. RootsWeb has issued to the List Administrators a directive that we are to keep our lists focused on Genealogy - not world affairs or other subjects. I understand that it is difficult to keep focused, but on these lists, it is necessary. I have chosen not to post the directive from RootsWeb, but will do so if necessary. This post is not aimed at any individual. Had it not been for the directive, I would probably have been one of the leaders in posting comments -- but I have been reminded; and now am reminding all of you: THIS LIST IS FOR GENEALOGY - not current world news, religion, computer software problems or any other subject, except those related to genealogy and only genealogy. This letter to the editor does not really pertain to genealogy, but I thought I would pass it along to you anyway. The reason is because, I think it is a very good way for our soldier's to let us know that they are okay, and who are currently deployed in the Middle East. The letter was written by Sergeant James M. Massie, from Lower Salem. If you have time, please read this letter. I was touched by it, and I'm sure you will be too, even though you may or may not know him. You might even want to pass it along to any relatives who live in Washington Co. because they may know him or his family, or you can email him thanking him for his service to our country, and that you read his letter on the online version of the Marietta Times.
