I am trying to locate the Lawrence Township Trustees Record vol. 1. It has a number of transactions from the early 1800s that appear to be leases for land in the Fifteen Creek area. The Washington County Recorder's Office said they do not have this record book. And the lease books in the corner of their office do not go back that far. A township trustee indicated that they don't have records going back to the early 1800s. Washington County Public Library's Genealogy Department and the Campus Martius Museum Library don't have the volume in their collections. I will check with the Washington County Historical Society when it reopens in it's new location during the winter. Does any listserv subscriber know of anyone who may have early Lawrence Township records? Or can you suggest other avenues to follow as I try to locate this record. Many thanks. Millie

In November 2001, my brother & I visited The Pierce Cemetery in Beaver Township, Noble County, which suffered from severe neglect until recent years. Most of the headstones were illegible or broken & it appeared several graves were moved & headstones were missing. Graves I could identify were Mary (Doyle) and Joseph Pierce, who represent the earliest identified ancestors in my Pierce line. Other graves that could be read: Parin Pierce, Nancy Pierce (I believe this is Parin & Margaret Pierce's young child), Michael Pierce; Stella, daughter of Squire and Nancy Brown; and Mary Ann & Ed Ensley (whom I would guess were Mary and Joseph's daughter & son-in-law). The Pierce Cemetery is located in a densely wooded area about 1/2 mile off of Twp Rd 182 (South side); west of junction of Twp Rd 181 in Beaver Township, Noble Co. Be warned that the area is overgrown and home to copperhead snakes (though we did not meet any on our visit). Nancy PIERCE

This might be from the line that I have worked on and that is from Launcelot Oliver born 1704 Will
Is anyone researching LEWIS OLIVER who is 63 years of age and living in Grandview Twp. in 1850. He married Mary Lee on January 18, 1833 and they were the parents of Darcas, Lucretia, and Stacy Oliver as of 1850. This was probably a second marriage as Lewis was in Grandview Twp. with children in 1820. Nancy Oliver, John Oliver, and Patty Oliver were also in Grandview Twp in 1820 but I am not sure of the relationship, if any, between these four persons. Millie
Nancy; I ran a search on John Pierce on ancestry.com in the newspaper section, and nothing else about is obituary came up. Sorry. I have been wondering about the Marietta "special" and hoped that videos or DVDs would be made available. How do we order a copy? Susie Dent in Mississippi
Mark Brewer just emailed me with some very good news. He is the Associate Director for Telecommunications ,Ohio University Public Broadcasting, WOUB/WOUC-TV/AM/FM/CABLE. A copy of the film, Opening the Door West, will be avalible on DVD and Video real soon. I am sooooooo excited!! Of course, I already ordered my copy. I can't wait to see this film. Everyone I have spoken with, says it is a very good documentary. When I first heard of the film, a few months ago, I was sooooooo disapointed that I couldn't see it, because it doesn't air in the Philadelphia, PA. area. "Opening the Door West" This is the story of the Ohio Company of Associates, a group of Revolutionary War officers and soldiers, and how, in 1788, they first opened the door for westward expansion of the new United States. At Marietta, Ohio, they began the first legal, organized American settlement in the old Northwest Territory. http://www.openingthedoorwest.com/ Another link to see information about this film http://www.mariettaonline.com/ohiocompany/ Debbie Noland Nitsche Diamonddeb@comcast.net Washington Co., Ohio (A History and Genealogy Website) http://home.comcast.net/~diamonddeb/Index.html
