Jeff, I have a little info on a couple of men named Amos Pryor: 1. An Amos Pryor was born in ca 1811 and was the son of Robert Pryor. Robert is supposed to be the son of Margaret Garvin and John Pryor, Sr. 2. An Amos Pryor was the administrator of Samuel Pryor estate in 1855 (Washington Co., OH) 3. An Amos Pryor was born in ca 1812. His father was born in PA and his mother in NY or NJ. He was married to a Nancy _____ who was born in ca 1814. They are in 1850+ Washington Co. census records 4. An Amos Pryor was born in ca 1852 and was the son of Nancy and Amos Pryor. He married Elizabeth Carter in 1870. Lived in Barlow Twp. The above information is from a number of sources - some sent to me from Pryor researchers on the Internet. Is your Susannah Kitts from Washington Co.? I know a man who has researched the Kitts. This letter was written by Anton and Eva KRESS, my great-great-great-grandparents, to Frederick and Marianne SCHOEN, my great-great-grandparents in December 1876. Anton and Eva lived at Fulda, Noble County, Ohio. Frederick and Marianne lived with Fred's parents, Johannes and Margaretha Schoen, at Hohman, Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio Other surnames mentioned: MILLER, JOHANNING, DIMMERLING, and HILDEBRAND. The original letter is in German, it was translated by a work colleague of mine. Notes in brackets "[]" were added by me. Question marks "(?)" were left by the translator when she was uncertain of the translation. ********** Dear Daughter Marianna, We received your two letters rather quickly each time. You complained that I didn't answer the first letter. You know that I am not always so fit with writing because my eyes are weak and my hand is shaky. I also wanted to wait on what was going on with you and yesterday on the 13th we received the mail and found out that everything was fine. We got the nice picture from Kaspar [Kress, eldest son of Anton and Eva Kress]. My loved ones pointed their fingers at you, Marianna, and your friend. The rest was still fresh and also the sugar cookies. We can see that you had a nice wedding and we wish you happiness and blessings, a long life and good fortune for your marriage. Dear child Marianna, you write us that you are all well. Mother is well and I still have a cold. Your sisters and husbands are all well. Last week Kaspar was at Gutsellen(?). He was here on Tuesday and said they had a bad winter. Mari Miller [sister-in-law of Kaspar Kress who was married to Elizabeth Catharina Miller] is again with them. Dear Marianna, you have not forgotten us yet. We have not forgotten you. Mother speaks often about you, usually about eating what is Marianna going to eat? Then I said, what she has she will eat. The Spoffader Johanning(?) [Joseph William Johanning, b. 1793; d. Dec. 11, 1876] was buried yesterday. Your Lisso(?) is still here. Mari Miller had asked for it but did not pick it up. Dear Friedrich, The people here say you bought the wetland at the Harz for 12 hundred Thaler but to me it is unbelievable because you didn't mention it in your last letter. If the land has not been sold yet, it will be sold soon. So you can think about whether you want to start a business and the place from me it is Dadfire(?) for 1800 Thaler, starting at 1200 Thaler. John Dimmerling [brother-in-law of Marianne, married to Elizabeth Kress] for a letter from me inviting him to your wedding. But the letter came too late, the evening of the wedding. John Dimmerling and Ernst Hildebrand were at our house and the two send greetings. Dear Marianna, I know you are waiting for a visit from us but I think it will not happen this winter. In winter old people like to sit next to the warm oven, that is their place. If I am still alive and healthy next spring I will visit you. So if you buy the land or something else please let me know so that I can plan for it. Last Saturday and Sunday it was so cold here that nobody could stand it. Now I will end my letter. Eva and I send many greetings to you and also to your father and mother. We remain your dear parents until death. Hello, I am searching for the above subject , whom I beleive is my maternal grt. grandfather. The above William Pryor and one Frank Pryor age 24 were mentioned in a history of Washington Co. OH , 1800's. The article stated the two Pryor's volunterred for three years in Civil War, 1862, Warren Twp. Washington Co OH. If this was my William he was in Iowa , Polk Co by 1870. I have a lot of info on my William after he reached Iowa, but nothing on him or his family before 1870. My William married my grt grandmother Anna Elizabeth Walllace 1877 Jasper Co. MO. I know he was married prior to his marriage to Anna Elizabeth. I have a William Pryor who fits the above OH William on the 1870 Camp Twp. , Polk Co. Iowa Fed . Ce , listed with a wife Margaret bo OH and a son Frank E. age 11 bo Ohio.I am reasonably sure after hunting for 20 years that these Williams are one and the same and could be my grandfather. The 1870 Iowa Wm was living right next door to a Mell family that I found later to be closely related to my William Pryor. I lost track of Margaret and Frank after the 1870 ce. I found my Wm and Anna on the 1880 ce in Polk Iowa with a young son Lawrence bo MO and a 12 year old son Robert . Robert could not have been Annas because she was only 18 in 1877 when she married William. My Wallace family was in Camp Twp. Polk Iowa by 1840 from the east. They moved to Jasper MO shortly before Anna married William. All records state William was bo OH during the 1830's . There is age variation in his ce records etc.. I beleive he lied because of theextreme age difference between him and Anna. One daughter of Wm and Anna , name Maudien was bo 1885 in Jasper MO. Her birth record states father , William H. Pryor was bo OH. This is the only time I have found the initial H.. I would greatly appreciate any and all help regarding my William Pryor. I will gladly exchange any info I have regarding my William etc.. I do not know how to proceed or secure other information regarding the info I found in the OH. HHistory. Please forgive, I neglected to mention Wm 26 and Frank 24 vol. in 92nd Regt. C.War , 3yr's. My sincere Thanks, Barbara Meives, Missouri.
I think Ida and Hiram DEVOL were married just before the 1880 census. They are listed in Bloom Twp, Morgan Co, OH with no children yet. Karen
Thanks Debbie. I don't know who she is but will put it in my Devol notebook under miscellaneous to check it out. I haven't been doing much genealogy lately, just copying to my files whatever I receive by email. I am recuperating from having a pacemaker implanted and am doing okay from that. In fact, I went to Myrtle Beach but didn't enjoy it as much as usual because bending over to pick up a sea shell made me too weak. Since Thanksgiving I've had two different viruses and a head cold. I haven't had a virus in over 3 years and can't remember when I ever had a cold. I guess my resistance is down and I am still weak from all of that. I bought some Boost to see if I can build up my resistance. I'm trying to put away Christmas decorations now little by little. I hope you have a Happy and Prosperous New Year. I'm looking for information on Cassandra BROWNING who married Alfred CALVERT in Harrison Co.,OH. Cassandra CALVERT & her younger children are living in Independence Twp.Washington Co.,OH. in the 1870 census. They were: Hannah,Jane,Andrew,Joseph & John Calvert. Her husband,Alfred CALVERT, is found in Ritchie Co.,WV. in the same census. I have seen where Cassandra Calvert married Alexander Bennett in Belmont Co.,OH. on 1 Feb.1878. Is this the same woman? Does anyone know when or where Cassandra died either? Does anyone know who Cassandra BROWNING's parents & siblings were? I believe she is the twin sister of my 2xgreat-grandmother,Hannah BROWNING,who married Thomas DRAKE on 25 Jan.1837 in Harrison Co.,OH. Hannah BROWNING was born circa 1815 in either OH. or MD. to unknown parents or siblings. Thanks for any help!
