    2. Has anyone run across the names of John and his son, Stephen ABRAHAMS. They settled somewhere in Washington Co., Ohio. My husband and I would are making a trip to your State and Washington County this month (my birthday present). I would love any information about my GGGG Grandparents. I do have quite a bit once they moved to Iowa. Would love to share with anyone researching this line. I am also interested in seeing the property in which they once owned. Need advice on how to find this land. This is a life long dream of mine. To walk the walk of my Ancestors. We can only spend a day and a half in your State so would like to have as much information before the trip that I can get. Thanks for any help. Again would love to share information. 1. [OHWASH] Crum 1919
    2. Joyce Fullen
    3. Obit from the Jan 15, 1919 REPUBLICAN JOURNAL: Harley W. CRUM, son of J.M. and Mandy E. CRUM, was born August 7, 1897. Died October 16, 1918, aged 23 years, 2 months and 7 days. He leaves father, mother and two sisters, Edith MASON and Belva OKEY, both of whom are married and have families, and three brothers, Evert, Clarence and Edward, of the home, and host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss of one whom they loved so well, who learned to love him for his manly virtues and goodness of heart. He lived an upright honest life and was always obedient to his parents. While he has answered the call of death, his spirit has gone to God who gave it and may God's will be done. Knowing that in a few fleeting years at most we will all answer the same call. It may not always be possible for the human mind to fathom God's purposes and to read His plans in the experience of our lives. The days of sorrow and sadness may seem even contrary to His promises, but we can in all confidence accept every day and every trial of life with the conviction that God is shaping our destiny and He know what is best. All that was mortal of Harley W. CRUM was lain to rest in Crum Ridge cemetery on October 17, 1918. Funeral conducted by C.C. ROE. Undertaker E.F. LEISURE. Why do we mourn departing friends or shake at death's alarm? 'Tis but the voice that Jesus sends to call them to his arms. Are we not tending upward too, as fast as time can move, nor would we wish the time more slow to keep us from our love. Written by a Friend. 3. Letter published in the Jan 15, 1919 REPUBLICAN JOURNAL: Plesnay, France Dec. 8, 1918 Dear Mother -- I will try and write you a few lines today as I have nothing to do. I am in the very best of health and hope you are the same. It is sure some muddy around here. We were drilling last week and will drill again tomorrow. I had a nice trip last Monday and Tuesday, we were at Rinancort, about 40 miles from here. I suppose Clayton has his corn all in by this time. Have been moving toward the U.S.A. for two weeks. I think we will leave here for the U.S.A. before long, I hope so anyway. I have not seen Harry JOHNSON for a few days, but I guess he is all right. I have been on four different fronts, the first one was the Toul front and the we went to the Chateau Thierry front and then to the St. Miehl front and from there we were moved to Verdun front and was there when the Germans surrendered. We sure had them on the go. Well, mother, it is time to stand retreat so I will close for this time. Your son, Pvt. Lewis DENNIS Co. A, 101 Amm. Train. American E.F. 3. Does anyone have any ancestors who was in WWI - Regular Army - 59th Infantry (Co. H) from 1917-1919? I am looking for any information and/or photos. My grandfather, Herman D. Johnson was in that Infantry. The information that I have about this is he enlisted in Columbus Barracks, Ohio. At the time of his enlistment, he was a resident of Constitution, Ohio. Constitution is between Marietta and Belpre. I have a pic of him in his Army uniform taken with his aunt (Mary Martha Mankins), but would like to have a group pic. Debbie (Noland) Nitsche

    3. Letter from soldier published in the Jan 15, 1919 REPUBLICAN JOURNAL: Somewhere in France December 10, 1918 Dear Friend -- How are you getting along by this time? I am getting along good. I am in class B 1 now and expect to get started back to the U.S. before long, but a person can never tell when or where they are going in the army. Well, Marie, I expect you have butchered by this time and have plenty of good sausage to eat and plenty of cider to drink. Well, I am working in the kitchen now at nights and am getting plenty of good eats. I have not heard from anyone for about two months and I sure would like to hear how you are all getting along.  One of the boys in my ward got a letter the other day and his wife and brother both died, and sure made me wonder whether my friends were all living or not. Well it will soon be Christmas and New Years, do you remember yet where we went last New Years evening? I say those were the happy days. Well, I expect it is impossible for me to get back before New Years but hope I will be there by Easter. Well, Marie, I surely have got through lucky so far for all I have gone thro I will sure have some story to tell you when I get back to the states. I have not yet found any one over here yet that I knew since I left the states except Francis NOLL. We came across the ocean together but that was the last I saw of him since September 10. I would sure enjoy meeting him or any of my friends once. Well, I think this is all for this time, hoping these few lines will find you all well and happy. Tell me how my folks are all getting along.
