    2. Beverly Dispatch May 29, 1919 Katie Stollar Wood Katie Stollar Wood, eldest daughter of Daniel and Nancy Stollar was born in Washington County Pa. March 9, 1840, and departed this life at her home near Center, Waterford Township, O. May 29, 1919, aged 79 years, 2 months and 20 days. In September 1854 she with her parents emigrated to Washington County, Ohio to farm in Palmer Township when but 14 years of age, residing at the present home for more than 50 years. On November 13, 1866 she was married to Lysander Wood and to them were given four children; Charlie, Omer, and Lester of the home and Mrs. May Dixon of Center, all of whom are living, the husband and father have departed this life on July 3, 1905. Being of a retired home loving nature, the beauty of her character was most fully revealed to those of hr own household. Beside the four children, two sisters Mrs. Phebe Breckenride of Barlow, Mrs. Mary Zumboro of Waterford, and one brother, Aden Stollar of Oakland California, with a number of relatives mourn the loss of a dearly lived mother and sister. Hill of Tyler County, Feb. 15, 187- . To this union five children were born all of whom survive her except one Mary D. Bell, died May 7 1905. The four surviving are John W., Chicago Ill. Cassandra B. Keith, Pennsboro W. Va, James T, Ogden ,Utah and Byron E. of Waterford. She leaves four brothers John W. and George and Archibald, all of Tyler County, W Va, and Byron E. of Seattle, Washington. Blood poisoning, which resulted form the extraction of an ulcerated tooth, was the cause of her untimely demise. Beverly Dispatch October 5, 1917 Hannah Elizabeth Penney After a long and serious illness of more than a year, Hannah Elizabeth Penney passed away at her home on Sixth Street, Beverly, on Monday, October 1st. The deceased was the daughter of George and Lucinda Penney and was born at Moscow Mills, Morgan County, Ohio, March 28, 1841. She and her brother John H Penney, who preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1915, were life-long residents of this community. She was a member of the Beverly Church of Christ, having united with that church under the pastorate of Rev. J. A. Wharton. The deceased is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Clarence Mathers of Beverly and Miss Anna Penny of Ft. Wayne, Ind.     2. Beverly Dispatch March 23 1917 Death of Former Beverly Man Relatives here received work of the death of Charles F. Allison, which occurred at his late home in Fillmore Cal. At the age of 61 years. He leaves a wife, one daughter. Mrs. Bernard Schmidt, and one grandson to mourn his loss. Interment was made at Fillmore Cal. Mr. Allison was a former resident of Beverly, where he attended Beverly College, At the time when Prof. Smith was instructor of that institution, and will be remembered by many residents in Beverly and vicinity, He left here about 20 years ago going to California, where he purchased a lemon ranch.     2. Beverly Dispatch March 28 1935 Victim Auto Accident The death of Miss Viola Mae Burchett, 61 occurred at her home near Barlow, early Tuesday morning. She was struck accidentally by an auto driven by her brother, Lon Burchett, as she was directing him in backing out of the muddy driveway at the Burchett home. The funeral was on Wednesday afternoon from the home Rev. Byron Hughs officiating. Chester H. Mindling, of Beverly, was the funeral director. Interment was made n Watertown Cemetery.     2. Beverly Dispatch May 17, 1912 Robbie H. Stiers Killed in Railroad Accident Robbie H Stiers, who left here about two years ago for Illinois and since that time has been working on the Chicago, Northwestern R.R., met with a fatal accident about eleven o’clock last Saturday night, which cased his death a few hours afterward. He was making his time at Belvidere, Ill., and was making a night run as brakeman on the freight train when the accident occurred. The train had stopped at Nelson Ill. And the train-men were switching cars. Robbie was hanging from the rear of a section of the train which was backing up to make the connection with other cars to assist in making the "hook-up", it is supposed he stepped on a small can that was near the rails and was thrown backwards, his head coming between the tow cars and his skull crushed. No one saw the accident and it was not known by the trainmen for a few moments, when he did not appear from between the two sections of the train to give the proper signal with his lantern. His body was at once picked up and taken aboard the engine and tender and rushed it a hospital at Sterling several miles away. Operation were made immediately in an effort to save his life but death came upon him in a few hours. The remains were brought her Tuesday and taken to the time of his mother near Moscow Mills. Funeral services were held at Mt Olive Church Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock and interment made in the Beverly Cemetery. The deceased, who was in the 23rd year of his age, has many relatives here, having in Beverly an uncle J. H. Stiers and aunt Mrs. Harris White. The deceased, although but a young man, was large of stature and was a good rail-road man. He made many friends while in the West, and was a member of the Railway Men’s Association, two of whom accompanied the remains here. His sudden death is a sadness upon all who knew him.     2. Beverly Dispatch September 20, 1912 Mrs. Fletcher Reed called Lucy Breckenridge Reed, 44, wife of J. Fletcher Reed, died at her home at Browns Mills, Tuesday morning at one o’clock. Mrs. Reed had been ill about four weeks and her death was not entirely unexpected by her family. Attending physicians gave tuberculosis as the cause of her death. Mrs. Reed was a most hospitable and well liked woman, well known and highly respected in the neighborhood in which she lived; and her death will be mourned by the entire community of which she was a residents. Besides the bereaved husband, she leaves two sons, Howard, who has been attending school in Delaware, and Dudley at home. The funeral services , which was conducted by Rev.     2. Beverly Dispatch August 23, 1912 Charles A Wilson Taken Suddenly Charles A. Wilson, for many years lockmaster at this place, and one town’s best citizens, died at his home last Sunday of heart failure. Mr. Wilson had long been a sufferer from indigestion, and acute attacks of his disorder was the exciting factor that over three the heart action resulted in his untimely demise. The news of his sudden death came as a shock to the entire community as he was apparently in his usual health up until Thursday evening, and very few had learned of his illness. At that time he had a severe attack of indigestion but by Sunday morning was considerably improved, and his condition was not regarded as serious, either by his family, his attending physicians or himself. Sunday noon, however, he was seized with an unusually severe attack. Medical aid was hastily summoned but in spite of it he rapidly weakened and within a very short time life was extinct. The deceased was born February 29th 1860, and his entire life was lived in this neighborhood. On December 24th 1893 he was united in marriage to Ella M. Sherman, who with three children, two boys and one girl survive Frank aged 17, Mary aged 14 and Walter aged 12. Charlie Wilson was a man whose life was an open book. He lived a good, clean honest existence and his friends were legion. He long connection with the river interests gave him a wide acquaintance among steamboat and river men, who will mourn his sad and sudden death He was for years, an officer of the Beverly Fire Company and had been repeatedly elected to official connection with the educational interests of this section. Progressive in his ideas yet thoughtful considerate of others his gentlemanly manner and kindly disposition endeared his to the hearts of all who knew him. The funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday morning conducted by C. F. Joseph, and the I. O.O. F. Lodge of which he was a faithful and honored member, laid the body to rest in the beautiful Beverly Cemetery. Linda LRHall175@aol.com

    2. Beverly Dispatch June 23, 1923 Brought to Waterford For Interment The remains of Mrs. Theodosia Smiley, of Zanesville. Former resident here, were rough to Waterford for burial on Monday afternoon. Mrs Smiley, who was 85 years of age in March of the present year, had been in a grave condition with heart trouble for some time. She was the widow of Mr. William Smiley, the family having many friends here. Funereal services were held in Zanesville and brief services, conducted by the Zanesville pastor of the Church of Christ were held in Waterford Cemetery. With the family funeral party were; W. R. Harper of the Harper Grocery Co, wife and son, Charles Culver. L.K. Brown, Mrs. Woody LaSourd and others, Mr. and Mars Scott and Mrs. Shaffer of Mc Connesville, Beverly friends attending the service at the grave were H. H. Funk, Miss Mande Mitchell, Mrs. Jessie Jackson, Mrs. Ella Henniger, Mrs. Adda Morris, Mrs. and Mrs. G. F. Eakin, Miss Rowena Ticker, Mrs. E. B. Townsend, Mrs. Olive Pomeroy, C. R. Applegate. May 2, 1919 Death of Martin Reed After a short illness of pneumonia, Mr. Martin Reed passed away at his home, Waterford Route, on Sunday morning, April 27 at 11:00 About a year ago Mr. Reed was operated upon at Marietta Hospital and while the physicians could do little for him, yet he was able to be around and was seen on the streets but a short time ago. He was born in Noble County, Ohio February 17, 1858, and was the son of Isaac and Catherine Reed, and was 61 years, 2 months and 10 days of age at the time of his death. September 5. 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Allison, and to this union were born six children. Charles Berton, Francis Roscoe, Atlee Delmer, Hazel Mae, Mable Marelle and Bernice Rita, two of whom, Francis and Mabel died in childhood He is survived by his wife, four children. Three brothers, George Ben and Charlie. Mr. Reed was a public spirited citizen and always had the welfare of the community at heart. He serviced two terms at Township Trustee. Thirteen years ago he united with the Beverly Christian Church, and has been a consistent member of that church. Services were held at the home on Tuesday, and interment was made in the Salem Cemetery. Sympathy is extended the bereaved family in their sorrow, by their many friends and neighbors. Beverly Dispatch February 4, 1919 Sad Death of Mrs Virgil Rowlands Extremely sad was the death of Mrs. Virgil Rowlands, which occurred at her home in the Dodge Addition, on Tuesday, February 4th. A little son had been born to her last week, at which time Mrs. Rowlands was suffering with influenza, and complications set in which caused her death. A husband and six little children are left to mourn her untimely death. The whole family had been stricken with influenza, and were all ill at one time, but fortunately they had good care , and with the exception of the wife and mother, will recover. Lulu Caro Rowlands was the daughter of Elijah and the late Viola Newton and was 33 years and 21 days of age at the time of her death. On October 23, 1907, she was united in marriage with Virgil L. Rowlans, and six children were born to this union. They are Cariol Day, Josephine Louise, Mary Lucille, Junius Loren, Francis Paul and the little son born last week. Beside the husband and children, her father, six brothers and two sisters survive. Services will be held Thursday, February 6, in charge of Rev. Hunter, and her remains will be laid to rest in beautiful Beverly Cemetery. Mrs Rowlands was a faithful member of the Beverly Methodist Episcopal Church. Linda LRHall175@aol.com

His early life was lived in Beverly and he will be well remembered by older citizens of this vicinity. He moved to Oregon in 1875, settled in Salem, and was in active practice there forty years. Beverly Dispatch February 21, 1919 Charlie Earl Stollar Charlie Earl Stollar, youngest son of Alfred and Hattie Stollar was born March 8 1899, and died February 12, 1919, aged 19 years, 11 months and 4 days. He was greatly esteemed for his sterling qualities, and a hopeful future seemed to open up for him, had not the ravages of influenza laid him low. Charlie died just as he lived; quiet and uncomplaining, and will be greatly missed in the home by his many friends. Bedsides his father and mother, two sisters Mrs. Blanche Humphrey and Moss Nora Stollar, and two brothers Harley and Harry, survive, tow sister having preceded him to the Great Beyond.
