Linda I just looked at the 1860 Census for Missouri. It states that Patrick 31 and Roenna 29 were in Trenton, Gundy Co., MO. Their children as follows per the census: H.J. 11 born OH James 8 born VA Mary 7 born OH Margaret E 4 born MO G.W. 2 born MO Sarah F 2 born MO. Looks like they left Ohio after 1850 (they are in the 1850 in OH) and went to VA where James was born. Then, back to OH where Mary was born, then on to MO. John 18 and Jackson 20 Hanlin living with them were born in VA also. They could be brothers or nephews to Patrick. Perhaps their parents died and they went to VA to take care of family business, came back to Ohio then moved to MO with the 2 Hanlin boys. Were did you read they were in Adair Polk Missouri? I found them in Trenton, Gundy Missouri I will look at the 1870 to see if any info changes like where everyone was born. Dana
This is a correction to anyone that was researching the George Miller Family and his heirs. That had requested a list of his children from me. Roann/Roseanne Miller whom I had stated married Patrick Hanlon born 1827 son of Richard Hanlon was incorrect. Roseanne Miller daughter of George Miller and Hannah Stackhouse married Patrick Hanlin born 1828 son of James Hanlin and Sarah Tice daughter of James Tice and Sarah Stimback Correction James Hanlin born 1796 Married Sarah Tice was a brother to Richard Hanlon born July 1785 married Nancy French and Margaret Williamson both had sons named after their father Patrick Hanlon . Patrick Hanlin of James Hanlin was born in 1828 Ludlow Township Washington County Ohio He married Roseanne Miller June 23, 1848, around 1850/1852 Patrick and Roseanne and his family which included most of the children of James Hanlin left the area for Missouri. 1860 Census has them in Adair Polk Missouri. Children of Rosanne and Patrick Handlin are Hannah born 1849 Washington Co Ohio James 1851 Mary 1853 Missouri Margaret 1856 Missouri Sarah 1858 Missouri George 1858 Missouri Emily 1862 Missouri Othemial 1865 Missouri Isaac 1867 Missouri Polly 1869 Missouri Patrick Hanlin may have remarried a Nancy Byrd March 31 1863 in Adair County, Mo. if so the last three children would belong to Nancy Bryd and Rosanna may have died after 1862. On Ebay: WATERFORD, OHIO 1895 LETTER 10 page reasonably GD condition ink personal letter with envelope and stamp from J.A. Hayward at Waterford, OH on July 10, 1895 to SA Hayward, Easton, MA. A delightfully informative letter highly descriptive of the writer's family and farm; how "my mean neighbor, the man Padgett, last fall lost his only son from blood poisoning brought on as I believe from filth generated by his own pony and pig pens;" has 18 hens and 40 chicks; reference to a lawsuit ("I proceed with my tantrum of grievances") and fact writer has no money at present; Bessie has returned from a visit after extensive travels down South; concerns about "a hoodlum set of children;" a Grand Templar's excursion to Barton; Lucy's visit to the World's Fair; content about the Hayward Homestead; Uncle Washington's estate; "...I can endorse your apt expression about the long __ sharp featured consumptive tribe that sprang from Uncle Washington's Mother..." and so on.Josephine is very opinionated, obviously, and vitriolic at times. Debbie, that isn't the only place where they didn't call the kinship all the time as we do today. Sisters-in-law were often called sisters. Sons-in-law were often called sons. Relatives-in-law were also often called cousins. Many times, older relatives were often called Aunt or Uncle, regardless of what their true relationship happened to be. Sometimes no relationship at all. That is why it is sooooooo important to check primary sources when they are available. I don't know if it would help much, but I have an Owen Beagle (b.abt. 1880-1890) who's son's, Dale and Clifford, married into my Little line. I don't have anything else on him. I believe he connects somehow to my Butler/Beagle line which were out of the Beaver County, Pa. area. I also have a West Farnsworth who married a Maude Thomas. Maude's mother was Cynthia Tice, born April 10, 1862. Cynthia was the daughter of William P. Tice (died in the civil war) and Nancy Jane Barrett ( married again to Thomas J. Little). I've known for a long time now, that William Bond Mason, one of the 1st 48 men who settled in Marietta and General Rufus Putnam had some kind of relationship connection, but didn't know how until I started looking into the genealogy of General Rufus Putnam, then.....BINGO! I found the connection....Here goes: Two of William Bond Mason's sisters were Elizabeth and Martha. Elizabeth MASON married Reuben PUTNAM in 1742. Their children were: Aaron, Jonas, Mason, Rufus, Rufus Austin, Elijah, Abagail, Martha, Catherine, William, and Manning. Martha MASON married Benjamin PUTNAM in 1782. Their children were: Simeon, Rufus, Joseph, Clarissa, John and Maria. Benjamin and Rueben PUTNAM were brothers, both sons of Nehemiah PUTNAM and Sarah MANNING. Nehemiah was the brother of General Rufus Putnam. So with that in mind, that makes Reuben and Benjamin nephews of Rufus. In the book: EARLY SETTLERS OF WATERTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS, by Henry Bond (1855) it gives the MASON genealogy of the descendants of Hugh Mason, in which William Bond Mason is a part of. It also states this about Manning (son of Rueben & Elizabeth (Mason) Putnam) which caught my attention: (95) 4. Manning, b. Ap. 12, 1787; d. Oct. 29, 1838, a saddler, went to Marietta, O., about 1805, where he resided some time with his cousin, Gen. Rufus Putnam, afterwards went to Putnam, Muskingum Co., O., where he m., Ap. 9 1809, Nancy Harer, b. Jan. 16, 1796, dr. of Jacob and Mary Harer. She d. June 25, 1828, and he m. June 4, 1829, Sarah Myers, b. Oct. 28, 1806, dr. of Jacob and Elizabeth Myers, of Putnam, O. (Names and info about his children are also mentioned). Manning was NOT a cousin of Rufus Putnam, but a grand nephew. Am I right? So, William Mason would be Rufus Putnam's nephew in-law. Or as my family would say: "Nef In-Law" lol Debbie Debbie (Noland) Nitsche Diamonddeb@comcast.net WASHINGTON COUNTY, OHIO HISTORICAL & GENEALOGY "LINKS" http://hometown.aol.com/washcohistory/Intropage1.html
Hi Mary Ann - Susannah and George are my ancestors, too. I will look in my notes at home, but as I recall, her family goes back to Anne Arundel County, Maryland via the Allegheny, Pennsylvania area. AA county sticks in my head because another completely unrelated line of mine is in AA county, so I thought that interesting. The tidbit about she and George being married in Ulster County, NY surprises me, as my Tice line which married into the Cline line was in Ulster County and I don't recall both of those lines coming from the same place. I'll be in touch after I look through my stuff. It may be that I can be of no help, but it's always nice to meet a cousin! There are other cousins on the list, too, so I am sure someone else will pop in with some more info. Best, Chaille in Vermont I also need information on a Buck. I have a Susannah BUCK, b. abt. 1754 (internet says she was born in Northern Germany), d. 1840 in New Matamoras, Washington Co., OH. Father is supposed to be Joseph BUCK. She married George CLINE, Sr. on June 08, 1770 in Ulster Co., NY. He died April 14, 1801 and she subsequently married Anthony Evans on Oct. 13, 1806. She and George Cline had nine children starting with Joseph Cline on June 7, 1771 and John Cline on Oct. 27, 1772. Sources say she also had Levi or Lewis, William, George Buck, Catherine, David, Rosannah and her last child, Christina Cline b. May 26, 1794. If anyone has any additional information, I would appreciate it. I would also like to know if she is listed in the BUCK book that has been discussed. If she is, I will be glad to buy it. I received this on a couple other e-mail lists, just passing it on. " Paramount Development Corp. has approached the City of Fayetteville, WV and asked that they re-zone a 60-acre farm on the edge of town for commercial use. Paramount Development intends to build 2 large buildings that Wal-Mart and Lowes will occupy as well as several smaller out parcels. The 60-acre tract of land however is what is known as the Fleshman/Clark farm, it was the site of the Sept 10, 1862 Battle of Fayetteville. The site also contains a battlefield cemetery, which contains the graves of at least 24 American soldiers. This property is in imminent danger of being developed, which would mean this hallowed ground would be lost forever. We are asking that the City of Fayetteville deny the request by Paramount Development Corp. to rezone the property and help to preserve Americas ever shrinking battlefield land, as well as, preserve and protect the hallowed ground. We owe it to ourselves and to our ancestors to protect this land that they fought and died for, this honored field where the dead from the battle rest in their graves. Hi, Anyone doing research on John Rhine? I'm actually looking for Isaiah Rhine's father and wondered if John may be him. All I know about Isaiah is he was the father of my great great grandfather William Rhine according to William's marriage record. His mother was Susan Woten, daughter of Bell Woten. She was 16 when William was born in Jan1822 in Gallia Co. OH. She was married to William Smith and Isaiah Totten after William was born. I have found no mention of Susan and Isaiah Rhine's marriage. In 15Jul1805 and 1Nov1830 John Rhine bought land in Marietta according to the Ohio Land Records found on Ancestry.com. This is all I know about him. I know this is a long shot but I really don't know what else to do. I really want to find info on Isaiah. Any help will be very much appreciated. Ethel Flannery grandmaelf@juno.com
