This was sure fun to look through this morning.  I checked out all my DAR patriots.  But just a word of caution -- many of the old applications with lineage societies, DAR, SAR etc contain many errors and omissions and often linked some "wrong families/generations" together.  It is always our burden to find the sources to "prove" the identity of the individuals and the link to the next generation.     Happy Hunting, Carolyn Sacramento CA

Rd. 252b Newcomerstown, OH 43832 www.appalachianancestry.com 740-498-5636 HERITAGE: Heritage is defined as those values, traditions, events, beliefs and relationships in a person’s life that combine to give rise to one’s character. Heritage is the defining elements of one’s life that tells who they are and how they should live. Heritage then is the profile of our values, priorities and beliefs and rules we are guided by in our daily lives. Our Heritage begins in the life experiences of our ancestors and we will pass them on to our descendents, long after we are gone. Collectively, the heritage of a society gives rise to its culture.

    1. [OHWashin] Johnsons in Roxbury, Morgan County and Washington County Ohio
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: tricity11 Surnames: Johnson, Travis, Watson, Evans, Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.washington/1788/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello my name is Jerry D. I have a dictation done in 1909 by Simeon Evans Johnson to his daughter Linna (Johnson) (Pigg) cox, in this dictation is says Eleanor Johnson Married asa Travis. The dictation Simeon to Linna in March 1 1909 in Highlandville Missouri says " So little is known of our ancestors (Johnsons)on my fathers side, that i think there ought to be some record made in honor of the old pioneers of this country, who braved hardships and privations, and who fought to make this a free and independant country, and to honor those who have passed on before. I will proceed to make, from what i have heard talked when a mere child, and what i know and heard in mature years. Joseph Johnson (my grandfather) and two brothers and great grand father, John Johnson emigrated to Ohio about 100 years ago From the western part of the state of New York. Joseph lived for a time below Luke Chute, Ohio. John and Jacob settled in the flat woods in Washington co., Ohio. They were known in the early days by that name. Later on Joseph bought a farm near Roxbury, all heavy timber land, and being a good cooper, much of the timber was used in the production of barrels, he reared a family of eight children, six boys and 2 girls, the names of their children are as follows -- Elizabeth, Dianna, Ira, Thomas, James, Daniel, Gilbert,(they are all dead as far as i know) Our great grandfather, john Johnson, was a Revolutionary soldier, he is burried some where in Washington co. One of the girls married Asa Travis, and the other married John Watson. Jacob Johnson i know but little about. John Johnson lived on a farm between Roxbury and Watertown at the X roads and died there. They had but one offspring, Isaac. They are Burried in the family burrying ground on the home place. I am the oldest grand child of Joseph Johnson living now, except my sister, Mary E. Bachelor that i know. I do not know my grandmother Johnson's maiden name. My fathers name was James Johnson. My mothers maiden name was Elizabeth Evans. To this union was 5 children, Simeon Evans, Smith, Mary Elizabeth, Austin, and William. Children of Simeon Evans . . . Linna Johnson Born Feb. 24, 1874. Homer Born Jan. 21, 1877. Emmett Born Aug. 18, 1879. Orlan Born Mar. 21, 1883. Clarence Born Apr. 15, 1885." End of Dictation As i have researched i found that Joseph's children that were born between 1810 and 1816 were born in New York. Joseph Johnsons daughter according to the dictation is named Elizabeth, but probably named Eleanor or may be a middle name (Simeon may have gotten it wrong) alot of things add up to Eleanor being one of Josephs daughters mostly because of her age. Asa travis's son Asa Travis living in the 1880 census in Ohio, Morgan county, Windsor it lists his mother being from New York. As far as i know our Johnsons are burried in the Mosher cemetery (may be called Goosehill cem.), Stockport cemetery and Oakland Church Cemetery in Morgan County, and the cemetery in Washington County in Watertown is called Johnson cemetery sometimes called Johnson- Van meter and i think its on the Nixon farm at the time of this posting. As i have done some other research i have found that in the book History of Washington county Ohio. Page 626 John Johnson from Pa. emigrated Summer of 1817 his single son Isaac from Chemung New York. while researching isaac Johnson i found on familysearch.org under Ohio deaths his two daughters Josephine and Virginia both list the father isaac johnson from Elmira, New York. Also in the 1880 census for Watertown found Isaacs Father John Johnsons parents from Prussa and bavaria I hope this helps many of our johnson family researchers. 3. Could you please check for a marriage of Robert Miller and Letitia? They would have been married around 1800 to 1812, they lived most of their life in Washington, County, Ohio, but I have never found a marriage for them. Thank you, Doris Benner
