    1. Re: Land Patents
    2. To Listers: I have followed with some interest, buyt have not checked the GLO files for Land Patents in Warren County recently, but isn't it possible that the reason that they are not found is that none (or few) were made following 1820? The BLM-GLO records have 1820 as the initial cutoff date. Remembering some history and looking at maps and charts reminds me that Symmes received as a purchase from the federal goverment, with George Washington signing, a sizeable number of acres between the Little Miami and the Great Miami Rivers north from the Ohio River to a line just north of Lebanon, OH. This was done well before the formation of Warren County in March 1803, at a time when Warren County lands were part of Hamilton County in the NW Territory. When Warren County was formed in 1803 it also included lands east of the little Miami which were part of the Virginia Military Reserve District, and these parcels had been granted to Revolutionary War participants from Virginia, I believe about 1798. Clinton County was at least partly carved out of Warren County in 1810. Perhaps other counties or parts of other counties also received lands from Warren County. While I don't know this history well, I do believe that a study of this history may contribute to an explanation of missing BLM-GLO Land patents from Warren County. Most, if not all land in Warren County had been purchased from Symmes (the original recipient) or from recipients of Virginia Military Reserve Lands before the BLM-GLO records begin, See Below: "...issued from 1820-1908." The following was copied 8/15/2000 from the BLM-GLO website. John Cowan The Official Federal Land Patent Records Site Welcome to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), General Land Office (GLO) Records Automation web site. We provide live database access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States. Image access is provided to more than two million Federal land title records for Eastern Public Land States, issued between 1820 and 1908. Images of Serial patents, issued between 1908 and the mid-1960's are currently being added to this web site. Due to organization of documents in the GLO collection, this web site does not currently contain every Federal title record issued for the listed states.
