French, Published in Shelby Republican (Shelbyville, Indiana) beginning Jan. 4, 1907, reprinted in The Bulletin, publication of Decatur Co. Indiana Historical Society, 1964. copied from file in Shelby Co. Library. This was written by Joseph Roberson French b: 27 August, 1825. His parents were Daniel French and Amy Tingle. My father, Daniel FRENCH, was born in New Jersey, on August 9, 1791 and when two years old his parents moved to Pennsylvania, When [] age he came to Lebanon, Ohio. He there became acquainted with my mother, who was born there in 1798, and she and my father were married and settled there. In 1820 father and my grandfather TINGLE came to Shelby Co., Indiana, and father bought 160 acres east of Middletown.[] Grandfather TINGLE bought a half section where Waldron now stands and gave it to his son JOHN TINGLE. He bought three eighties south of Middletown and gave it to his oldest daughter, Mrs SOLOMAN BEEDLE. He bought a half section []Conn's Creek and gave the north half to his daughter, Acenath (?)od and the south half to his youngest daughter Catharine BOYD. After father was here in 1820 Job Creek bought eighty acres adjoining father on the south. When father came out in 1821 he brought William HAYMOND with him and they lived with Creek until they could build a cabin. In the fall of 1822 he went back and brought his wife and two year old daughter back by Ox cart. Article mention that is 1826-27 the neighbors were John Hendricks, Henry Moore, Fountains, Beedles, Wicoffs, Thomas Haymond, Elijah Haymond, Owen Haymond, Samuel Monroe, James Finley, Henry Ormsby, John Haymond, Aaron Van Pelt, Enoch Tindall, Samuel Snider, Sorry this is so long, I thought someone might be interested in it.
