Marjory A. Austen writes inpart and Hal adds a few comments: <<<<<<< Phillip Coleman married Nancy HORN. I believe that he moved to Perry Co. but I am not certain of that. John Coleman married Nancy PROUD and I think that they went to Perry Co also. One of the above couples had: John, David, Matilda, and Harriet, my ancestor, b. 1835. Shortly thereafter the father, either Phillip or John, died. Nancy had her daughters appointed guardians. Matilda went with Adam Plank. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Adam Plank and Henry Bowser had farms which touched each other. As you know the Nancy Coleman who married Henry Bowser November 7, 1842 and is his wife in the 1850 census has John, David, Matilda, and Harriet all named as Coleman children in the 1850 census. John Coleman has a household in 1840 in Warren County. If our scenario is correct he died before November 7. 1842. Did he relocate his family from Warren County to Perry County between 1840 and 1842? Maybe. Or his widow could have come to live with her brother-in-law. But then it would have made more sense if Philip were appointed guardian. Did a Perry County court appoint Adam Plank as Matilda's guardian? What about the other children? Do you know when? I suspect several people have looked for Philip Coleman in 1850 - and can't find him. Maybe he is dead or went west. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< In 1850, Nancy PROUD COLEMAN, has been widowed and remarries this time to Henry BOWSER, another family name from Warren Co. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Henry is not closely related to the Bowsers of Waren County. They may have been cousins but the exact connection is unknown to the researchers I correspond with. Although they have may have come down the Ohio River together for part of the trip in about 1798. Henry was born March 11, 1814, in Washington County, Salem/Union Township and was brought to this farm in Perry County, probably in the November of 1814. Henry's father, John, returned to Marietta November 10, 1814, to sign the deed of purchase of what would later be Henry's farm on Jonathan Creek. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> In the 1850 Ohio Census in Perry Co, we find Nancy PROUD COLEMAN BOWSER with the four children listed above, namely my ancestor, Harriet. Are you still with me? I need to find someone who knows the name of Nancy HORN COLEMAN'S children. Did Nancy HORN COLEMAN and Phillip have children? If so, who are they? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nancy Horn was married April 12, 1832, most of her children should be in the 1850/60 census. If Philip is alive and in Muskingum or Perry County you can find him. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< I do not know when the Horns came on the scene. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Daniel and a widowed sister-in-law bought land in Newton Township in 1805. They are not in the 1800 Bedford County Census and were probably on the move - maybe in Fort Henry. The men probably left their families there while they went into the Ohio country to find land and build cabins. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Marjory A. Austen comments by Hal
Is there anyplace on the net that lists Warren Co. deaths-mid to late l800's? Thanks.
I am not sure that all of the aobve families lived in German Tp., but they were close enough to know each other. I have a problem with who married who! See if you could help me. There are two COLEMANS I am concerned about: Phillip and John, they may have been brothers. They both married Nancys. Stay tuned it gets better! Both married about 1830-1832. Phillip Coleman married Nancy HORN. The Planks intermarried with the Horns. Ah ha, you think, that means that Nancy HORN COLEMAN must be the mother I am seeking. Not so soon.... In 1850, Nancy PROUD COLEMAN, has been widowed and remarries this time to Henry BOWSER, another family name from Warren Co. In the 1850 Ohio Census in Perry Co, we find Nancy PROUD COLEMAN BOWSER with the four children listed above, namely my ancestor, Harriet. Are you still with me? I need to find someone who knows the name of Nancy HORN COLEMAN'S children. I need to know if Phillip and John were brothers as I suspect that they are. In a Bible insertion page written by an ancestor it was stated that my Nancy married Phillip COLEMAN, who had bros: Jacob, David, John and George. No father given. I have tracked the Colemans, Bowsers and Prouds out of PA. I do not know when the Horns came on the scene. If Nancy HORN is not my gr-gr-grandmother, I do not need to know. If she is my ancestor, then I need to get Nancy PROUD Coleman out of my line. Questions: Did Nancy HORN COLEMAN and Phillip have children? If so, who are they? Were Philip and John brothers? If so, who was their father? Are their any leads and/or help out there? Marjory A. Austen MAPPAusten@aol.com

My interest is the Baldwin family. About a year ago I corresponded with a gentleman who told me there was information regarding Elizabeth Varner who married Samuel Baldwin. Is this information available at the Genealogy Society or at the main library? Also, is there much genealogy information at the Lebanon Library for the Turtlecreek and Salem Township areas? If so, I would appreciate receiving the address and hours of the library. Hello, I don't normally sub to this list, but I was in Tipp City, OH at Boot's Antiques at 24 W. Main Street and happened to see an old Bible (the self-pronouncing kind) beautifully illustrated and full of genealogical information on the above named families (GARRISON, LOWELL, PATTON, MCCULLOUGH) including several newspaper obituaries. The names were mostly from Warren Co. and Springfield, OH The cost was $68.00. You could call and see if it is still there. It was in the right hand back room. The phone number there is 937-667-6357 I have no other information. Marla Fair in Troy, OH

I thought there might be someone here interested in taking over this county for me at Rootsweb. I will be submitting my resignation soon and wanted to check here first so I could give the state co-ordinator the name or names of those interested. I no longer have the time needed to keep up and add to the pages as should be so I feel it is better to let someone else more able take over rather than have the pages and those who use them suffer. Thanks for all your help and contributions through the years! Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
