    1. Re: Cowan/Shaw information
    2. Dear Larry: Thanks for your e-mail re: Abigail. I'm not sure when I posted the old notice on OHWarren-L, but it must have been a couple of years ago. I have had extensive email correspondence with Frances Willess as well as quite a few snail mails back and forth. Almost a year ago I spent a full day in the Clinton County CH, following sales of land once held by John Cowan. Actually I've been researching the Cowans (with connecting info re: Shaws, Burrs and Sewells and others) in Warren and in Clinton County for about 30 years more or less. Frances provided me with much information in the past 2 or 3 years. She is a very good researcher. What are your interests in the Shaws or the Shaw/Cowan connections? 1. Re: Shaw - Warren county ?
    2. Hi Larry-- This is John Cowan again. Frances Willess has probably also put you in touch with Ruth Hattendorf re: Patrick Shaw m. Hester Sewell. If not, write her soon. She is a direct descendant of this marriage, and may be able to help you in your searches a great deal. She and her husband had a delightful day with me "on the ground" so to speak, checking out Sewell and Cowan lands in Berkeley/Jefferson County, WV one rainy day in September in 1999. In a message dated 12/10/2000 12:39:32, lshaw@nwlink.com writes: >My Greatgrandfather, Jesse Alfred Shaw, was reportedly born in Ohio around >1810 and later moved to Indiana where he married and raised a family. >He married in 1834 in Franklin county, IN and lived with his family in Hancock >County in 1850. > >Circumstantial evidence would lead me to believe he is the Jesse Shaw born >in Warren County, OH in Sept 1810 to Patrick Shaw and Hester Sewell. > >Patrick's father, John Shaw had been a very early settler in Lebanaon Ohio. >Hester Sewell Shaw died in 1817 and, through Patrick remarried two years >later, it is unclear what happened to the young children in the family. > >Many of Patrick's brothers had moved on to Indiana. > >If anyone else has records on the Shaw family, I would love to share >information. > >Larry Shaw

    1. Shaw - Warren county ?
    2. Larry Shaw
    3. My Greatgrandfather, Jesse Alfred Shaw, was reportedly born in Ohio around 1810 and later moved to Indiana where he married and raised a family. He married in 1834 in Franklin county, IN and lived with his family in Hancock County in 1850. Circumstantial evidence would lead me to believe he is the Jesse Shaw born in Warren County, OH in Sept 1810 to Patrick Shaw and Hester Sewell. Patrick's father, John Shaw had been a very early settler in Lebanaon Ohio. Hester Sewell Shaw died in 1817 and, through Patrick remarried two years later, it is unclear what happened to the young children in the family. Many of Patrick's brothers had moved on to Indiana. If anyone else has records on the Shaw family, I would love to share information. Larry Shaw

    1. Leonard Ellis and Mary Babb
    2. Richard & Marilyn Strakowski
    3. I am seeking information on Mary (Babb) Ellis who was born on December 6, 1785/1786 in Virginia. She married Leonard Ellis on April 21, 1808, in Frederick County, Virginia. They moved to Ohio in 1813. They moved back and forth between Clinton and Warren Counties, living in Warren County from 1819/20 - 1824, and from 1838 until she died in May, 1842, and he died in May, 1856. I am trying to find out if any of the Babbs in Warren County were Quakers, because at some point in the Ellis line they became Quakers. I am pretty sure that Leonard's parents were not Quakers. I know that Leonard and Mary's son, James, married into the Quaker faith when he married Mary Jane Harlan. I do not know any of Mary's ancestors or names of brothers or sisters, so I don't know which Babb family she came from, and there are lots of Mary Babbs. I would appreciate any information I could get on the Babbs of Warren County during the years of 1813 - 1860, and particularly if anyone knows if any of them belonged to the Quaker faith. Thanks for any help you can give me. Marilyn Strakowski

    3. Hi, I'd be glad to do the lookup. I do have the 1880 census, but I don't have an index, and the 1880 index isn't online yet, either. The only reason I was able to help Sarah was because she had a page number. I've never heard of Lytly. Do you know which township it's in? I would need to know that much, anyway. Judy

    3. Hi Sue, I possibly have some relatives still in Warren Co. Ohio. My GGG grandfather Peter Collins moved there from Fayette Co. PA. in 1812 when he was 13. Me married Sarah Collins of Hamilton Co. in 1821. They moved to Vigo County IN in 1836. But they had 11 children and quite possibly some stayed in Ohio. I know most were born in Ohio. I would love to find someone with the same ancestors. 1. Collins name in Warren Co. OHIO
    2. Randell Collins
    3. To everyone on the list, Hello. My name is Randell G. Collins. I live in Center Point, Indiana which is close to Terre Haute, IN. I am in hopes you may be able to help me, and I would be happy to share what info I have. I am looking for the family of Peter Collins. He was born 08-09-1799 in Fayette Co. PA. When he was 13 (1812) his family moved to Warren County PA. He lived there for some time, working as a wagonmaker. In 1820 he married Sarah Miller, a native of Hamilton Co. OH. In 1836 he moved to Vigo Co. IN. He died in 1880 and is buried here in Vigo Co. I have info on his children, and on down to myself. He is my GGG grandfather. In the 1800 Fayette Co. PA Census I have 4 possible families that might have been his, he would have been 1 year old and there are 4 families with a male child in that age range. I am going to continue on the PA. trail but am also trying to pick them up in Ohio if I can. I want to find out his siblings and parents. Thanks for any help and suggestions. 1. Benjamin ALLEN
    2. Marv & Grace
    3. Anyone researching the Allens of Warren Co.? A Benjamin ALLEN is listed in the 1870 census - 56 M W in Wayne Twp. The right age for my gr-gr-grandfather who was born in OH in 1814. He married Naomi SLAVENS July 10, 1835 in Pike Co. OH. They had at least one child there (Clinton). He was in the 1840 census there. Was on the Shelby Co., IL censuses for 1850 & 1860. Shows that they had two children born in MO between 1840 and 1850 (Marion & Elizabeth). And two children born in IL (Mary C. & John M.). They are not there in 1870 and I haven't been able to locate them after the 1860 census. Very much appreciate hearing from anyone who knows of the Benjamin ALLEN who was listed in 1870 Warren Co., OH census.
