    3. >From the McArthur Democrat-Enquirer, November 12, 1919 (TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: If anyone on the list is researching the STANLEY family from Knox Township, I would love to exchange information. I am trying to find the connection with the CHESSER family. Thanks, Carol Beattie, [email protected] net) "KNOX NO. ONE The weiner roast and soup supper at Gum Tree was a success both financially and sociably. Large crowd attending that was expected. The proceeds amounted to $13.65. The all-day meeting that was postponed last week was held Sunday. Quite a few assembled to hold communion with Thee. Sunday School in the forenoon. At the noon hour a bountiful dinner was prepared and spread before them. In the afternoon Luster STANLEY of Athens, gave a very interesting talk in regards to the Coming King and the last days that we are now living. Owing to the failing health of our old friend W. M. STANLEY making it impossible for him to care for his corn crop that was raised, the friends decided to give him a corn husking. The boys went in the fields with lots of pep and the crop was about husked out. Uncle Billy as he is known among the boys is afflicted with rheumatism making it a difficult matter for him to attend to the farms that he owns. Those attending were: Arch STANLEY, W. M. HOLDREN, Eugene FORREST, George STANLEY, Clyde STANLEY, A. D. FORREST, and Jack SCOTT. While traveling along our roads since the heavy rains we find quite frequently where autoes have stuck in the mud. In order for the parties to get the machines out and go on their journey again they take rails and boards and in many incidents we find that these have been left in the road. Parties may have done this unthoughtedly or in a fit of passion jumped into their fliver and with a curse to the bad roads drove on, not realizing what a condition they left the road. The rails left there-in are dangerous to both horses and machines. Nails left in these boards are liable to puncture tires for other machines and the rails may break someones vehicle. We would therefore appreciate in Knox No. 1 if same would be removed hereafter. If you are out of the mud and say that you will never be in such a mud road again, remember that there is another fellow that will travel this road besides you. W. M.
