The County was formed from 5 counties: ROSS ATHENS GALLIA JACKSON HOCKING Named for Samuel Finley Vinton A well respected representative for 20 years at the time the County was formed , he died in 1862 ORIGINS OF VINTON COUNTY NAMES OF PLACES , states where all townships , cities, towns in Vinton Co are named for.
