ONE Mr. and Mrs. Newton KNOWLTON and daughter, Marvel, returned to their home in Albany Sunday, after having spent a few days with Mrs. KNOWLTON's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will HOLDREN. The young folks are attending meeting at Moonville. Misses Faye MCAFEE and Iva HOLDREN were guests Friday night of Miss Nellie TEWKSBURY. Miss Hilah STANLEY and brother Ernest of Bolin's Mills spent Friday night at the home of their uncle Mr. Worley WEST and family. Virgil CANNY was a business caller in McArthur Wednesday. The pie and candy supper at Gum Tree School Friday night was very successful! $18.60 was made with which books and other equipment will be purchased for the school. A new bookcase was recently placed in the school house. George CHESSER delivered a load of hogs to Athens Wednesday. Mrs. E. ELLIS and son Jim are on the sick list. The following pupils of Gum Tree were perfect in attendance for February: Gladys PHILLIPS, Nellie TEWKSBURY, Mildred CHESSER, Chester WEST, Clovis CHESSER, Amos CHESSER, Clarice CHESSER, Earl CARSEY, Vernon WEST, Jim BROOKS, Gerald CARSEY, Ardis CHESSER, Kenneth CARSEY. The school had no cases of tardiness for the month. HOPE Mr. and Mrs. Claude JONES, daughters Margaret and Helen, were Athens visitors Wednesday. Warnie FOSTER of near Albany was visiting S. M. SHARP a few days last week. T. L. DUNN was a business caller at Athens, Albany, New Marshfield and McArthur the past week. Ira JONES of Sugar Creek was calling on D. S. COLLINS recently. Mrs. Eliza SOMERS of near Zaleski is visiting Mrs. Lovisa MOORE. HAMDEN R Malleda, train master of B & O of Chillicothe was here Thursday morning. Hamden High School basket ball team lost both games at Athens tournament last week, 1st game Laurelville, 25, Hamden 12, 2nd game Hamilton township 32, Hamden 13. James CLARK of Washington C. H. and Walker HARRIS of Columbus were Hamden visitors Saturday. Mrs. Anna STANTON and Miss Blanche ROBBINS motored to Cincinnati Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank LOCKARD and son Howard of Wellston. Mrs. Orson OGIER of Portsmouth, Miss Grace BROWN of Lebanon and Miss Ida BROWN of Columbus spent the week end with their mother here. Mrs. C. H. MERRILL and sons Claire Oren and Nile were Chillicothe visitors Saturday night. Miss Mildred POORE of near Jackson was a Sunday visitor here. Ray KARG of Portsmouth was visiting friends here Sunday. Tom FRY of McArthur was in town Sunday. Kensington Club met at the home of Mrs. Wil STANTON Friday afternoon. Mrs. John ZERVIS was in McArthur Tuesday making settlement with B. & O. R.R. acount her son Oscar who was killed at Vigo while employed as brakeman on local freight caused by car running off track into coal house. Ray ROBBINS left Sunday for Chicago to attend Coyne Electrical school. He was accompanied as far as Cincinnati by his brother Ernest. Wm. CARR of McArthur has purchased the John THOMPSON property in new addition. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. OGIER Jr., Ray HARKINS and Miss Louise BROWN attended the George Washington dance at Elks hall at Wellston Thursday night. Charles REINEIGER of Chilicothe was a business visitor here Wednesday. John E. JONES of Jackson was here Sunday. Mr. CHRISTIAN of Dundas purchased the H. R. FOOSE property on Buffalo St. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. MERRILL and children visited with her parents at McArthur Sunday. Mrs. Harry BAGLEY and son Paul visited with Mr. and Mrs. Will DUNGAN and family of Jackson Friday. Earl MCEVY of Jackson was here on business Thursday. Hamden H. S. basket ball team defeated St. Mary's team of Chillicothe, Wednesday evening at school auditorium 28 to 20."
I really enjoy reading your post. My mom was born in McArthur ,she lived there until the 1920's and then they moved to Marion. Keep up the good work. Everyone really appreciates all your work. Madge
