In the book, "A brief History of Vinton County', there is mention of the Children's home. There is no mention when it was built but it replaced an older building called the County Home built around 1873. The Infirmary was nearby on land later used as the McArthur lumber and post along route 93 at the corner of Infirmary road south of the children's home. The Infirmary was a type of rest home for the poor. In those days, Infirmary road was the main way to Zaleski before route 50 was built in it's current condition.
