SOURCE: Vinton County Newspaper McArthur Democrat Enquirer Sept 21, 1911 "Death of Harriet Bowen" Mrs. Harriet Chapman Bowen was born October 20th 1848 at Wilkesville, and died at Vales Mill, Sept 13th, aged 62 years, 10 months and 23 days. November 24th, 1870 she was united in marriage to W. J. Bowen. To this union were born seven children, George, Emma, Jerry, Laura, Homer, Gomer and Walter. Emma and Jerry died several years ago. The others survive to mourn the loss of one of the best of mothers. She united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on March 12th, 1886, being baptized by Eld. L. R. Devore, She was a zealous saint, cheerfully giving of her energies to the work she loved. She was an affectionate and dutiful wife, an indulgent parent and as kind hearted as a neigboras ever lived. The funeral was largely attended and the floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The services were held in the LDS Church at Vales Mills. The service as in charge of A.B. Kirkendall and S. J. Jeffers. The song service was conducted by the Chapman brothers and sisters, relatives of Mrs Bowen, and was beautiful and impressive.
