    3. SOURCE: McArthur Democratic Enquirer June 24, 1886 "Death of Amos Shry" " Amos Shry, aged about 86 years, died at his residence in this place Sunday last. He has been prominently identified with the interests of this community nearly all of his life. Honest, industrious, frugal and peaceable, he modestly flosted down the stream of time with scarcely a ripple to break its placid surface and departed from our midst in characteristic peace and quiet. His remains were buried by the side of those of his wife in the Hoffhines (Hixon) graveyard, two miles south of town, on Sunday and the funeral was largely attended by friends and relatives. Amos Shry was born in London County, Virginia, September 11,1800. His father emigrated to Ohio in the year of 1800 (?1806) and entered the land now owned by John Dowd Esq., near Vinton Station. In 1824 Amos married to Mary Bobo and by her had eleven children, seven of whom are still living. About the time of his marriage he acquired from the government now owned by Mr. E. D. Wolf, on which he lived for 36 years and raised his large family. He died at a good old age honored and respected by all who knew him."
