SOURCE: Obituary July 17, 1918 Mary Amanda McNutt, daughter of Samuel B and Mary Jane Ullom was born at McArthur, Ohio March 10, 1864 died at Columbus, Ohio July 6,1918, aged 54 years, 3 months and 27 days. She grew to womanhood in McArthur and on December 22, 1881 was united in marriage to Lance McGonagle Russell to which union one child Lydia Marie was born. On August 10,1889 the husband and father passed away and was laid to rest in the Elk Cemetery ( McArthur). In June 1893 she was again united in marriage to James H McNutt and to this latter union four children were born. Eric, Genevieve, Margaret and Robert. Genevieve dying in infancy. The home life continued a peacful and happy course for almost a ..(cut off) interrupted only by the tragic death of the daughter Margaret who was drowned in the waters of Paint Creek on May 31, 1913 On January 5, 1918 James H McNutt passed into the beyond and today but six months since the wife and children surrended him to the care of Heavenly Father, the children are again gather to pay a last loving tribute tot he children of the deceased, four stepchildren Harry and Lee McNutt of Springfield Ohio, Earnest McNutt and Bessie Himes of New Castle, Indiana, two grandchildren, Margaret Winters and Marcella McNutt, three sisters Eliza K King, Lena Thomason, Margaret Holland and two brothers Frank of Tacoma Washinton and Sanford Ullom of Logan, Ohio yet survive. Practically the entire life of the deceased has been spent in this community where she has commanded the respect and love of all. As a wife she was faithful and made a home which was all that the name implies. As a mother she was loving and sacrificing. as a friend and neigbor sincere and conscientious. She united with the Christian Church in McArthur in her youth until her death was a faithful and devoted follower of the Christ. In this hour of grief and sorrow her loved ones can surrender her to the care of a just and merciful God in perfect confidence." The Family" SOURCE: Vinton County Newspaper July 1918 "MRS AMAMDA MCNUTT - DIES AT GRANT HOSPITAL, COLUMBUS, FOLLOWING AN OPERATION." "It was a severe shock to the people of McArthur when word was received here Saturday morning of the death of Mrs Amanda McNutt, who died following an operation at Grant Hospital in Columbus Friday. Mrs McNutt had been afflicted for several years with a growth on her face, which had caused her pain and suffering. She had consulted and had been treated by specialists and physicians, but obtained no relief and an operation was decided upon with the result stated above. She is survived by one daughter Mrs E C Winters, Columbus; two sons Eric and Robert and three stepsons Lee and Harry McNutt of Springfield, Ohio and Ernest McNutt and one stepdaughter Bessie Himes of New Castle, Indiana; two brothers S.B. Ullom of Logan and Frank Ullom of Tacoma, Wash and three sisters Mrs Margaret Holland, Mrs Lydia King, and Mrs Lena Thomason of McArthur. Mrs McNutt was 54 years old and a life long resident of McArthur where she was highly respected and esteemed. The remains were brought her on Moday in charge of the undertaker Gaskill and taken to the house on South Market Street. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Christian Church at 1 o'clock pm conducted by Rev Stevens and interment was in the Elk Cemetery."
