Athens Messenger, Sept 6, 1931 Hamden District Man Killed by Slate Fall McArthur, Sept 5---Charles Frazee, aged 70 was killed by a fall of slate while working in his coal mine near the Tarr farm east of Hamden, Friday, Sept 4. When he did not arrive home for his mid-day meal, his wife and a neighbor, Herbert McManis, entered the mine and found his body nearly covered by about a ton of slate. Mr. Frazee was a lifelong resident of the place where he died. His father was the late John Frazee, a contractor who furnished iron ore to Hamden and Eagle furnaces in the years after the Civil War. He leaves his wife and four sons: Earl of Jacksonville, Brian and Walter of Hamden and Mont of Puritan. Funeral services will be held at the residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev Fredrick Brown of Hamden officiating. Burial will be made in the nearby Zion Cemetery. Thanks for the obit. I am also looking for an obit for John Decker, also of Hamden. I have it written that he died on March 25, 1910 in an accident while laying a cornerstone. Don't know if it is true. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeanie" <jeaniegabriel@hotmail.com> To: <OHVINTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 2:03 PM Subject: [OHVINTON-L] Charles Frazee, brother to Orin > Athens Messenger, Sept 6, 1931 > > Hamden District Man Killed by Slate Fall > > McArthur, Sept 5---Charles Frazee, aged 70 was killed by a fall of slate > while working in his coal mine > near the Tarr farm east of Hamden, Friday, Sept 4. > When he did not arrive home for his mid-day meal, his wife and a neighbor, > Herbert McManis, > entered the mine and found his body nearly covered by about a ton of slate. > Mr. Frazee was a lifelong resident of the place where he died.
