Athens Messenger March 15, 1888 VINTON A protracted meeting has been held at Hope Furnace for two weeks, with a result of 25 converts. Mrs. Patience Newlun, wife of Benjamin Newlun, died at her home near McArthur on Sunday of last week, aged about 49 years. Hon. Homer C. Jones, of McArthur, will be presented in the Republican judicial convention by Vinton county as a candidate for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in the Judicial subdivision of which Vinton is a part.
