Hello Carl, I'm trying to convince myself that my McDonald family actually was Catholic, as the family stories say. I checked the Catholic Churches in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania where they lived before coming to Ohio, but found none that had any records of them. Not even anything to indicate they even attended church. John McDonald was born 1792 in Ireland, migrated to the United States about 1800/1802 and lived in Armstrong County, PA until the early 1850s, when he and his children moved to Jackson County, Ohio. No wife, just John and his children. I think she must have died just before they left Pennsylvania. John lived in Jackson County, near the Comer School. I have forgotten the township, and the road number, but it is west of Oak Hill. Some of his children stayed in Jackson County, but most moved to Vinton County, and by 1870, some even had started moving to Ross County, Ohio. Hiram and George were two of his sons that I know went to Vinton County. Hiram lived there all of his life. He died in 1903 and is buried in Elk Fork Cemetery. George later moved to Wellston. In John's later years (1880) census, he lived with his son Peter in Bloomfield Township. I don't know if Bloomfield is in Vinton or Jackson County. Peter and his wife died in 1881. Peter is buried in Bloomfield Cementer, and I think his wife is buried next to him without a marker. I don't know when John died. I have been trying for several years to find some sort of record indicating which church John attended, if he did at all. All of the family stories have him as Catholic, but I have never found anything proving this. Thank you for your help, Harold in Florida
