[This article was transcribed without making changes to spelling or grammar.] Athens Messenger December 1, 1887 VINTON There is a total of 5,934 children of school age in Vinton county. Mr. Harrison Priest recently died at his late home in Swan township in his 71st year, The Vinton Record makes complaint that potatoes command so high a price there that poor people use them only for desert. Mrs. Laughlin, a McArthur boarding house keeper, was lately seriously injured by being knocked down by a run-away horse. The barnes (sic) of Earnest Fisher and Edward Morgan, near McArthur, were destroyed by fire, on a recent night. The buildings with their contents, a lot of hay and grain, were totally destroyed. Mr. Fisher's contained two horses, which were taken out with great difficulty. Transcribed by Joyce Robinson
