Crystal, You are the first Vinton Lister I have seen for several weeks. The Brooks/Sharp message came from Tootie Dennis and I never saw the other one you mentioned. I'm having a terriable time getting many messages thru to the proper people, even without the lists, and I don't have any viruses according to my virus scan and fire wall utilities.-Hope we find out soon what is wrong. Does any one have any info on this line. Phidella was the dau of Thomas Jefferson and Dicy Farley Sharp. I can not find them again after the 1880 census. Her named is spelled many ways. He is listed as James M. Brooks on marriage license. That is all I have. Have a lot on the SHARP line as that is my root line. Ira Sharp Dennis Descendants of James M. Brooks Generation No. 1 1. I know this is off subject but with Veterans Day fast approaching I thought I would pass this along. Walmart is offering a special portrait package to all families of Veterans. You can take in any picture of your Veterans in uniform to their one hour photo lab and they will make a special package with their Kodak picture maker. They will display the 5x7 in their store on a Wall Of Honor, and you will recieve 3 additional prints including a pin with a yellow ribbon. After Veterans Day, all the 5x7's will be sent to Washington. What a way to honor our Veterans. I Personally have done 17 veterans in my family and now I have my own Wall of Honor for my home to display.
THanks Margaret!
>Margaret, > >Is there any way you could put me in touch with this Carl Short that you >mentioned so I could ask him some questions? > >Thanks, >Becky Blystone Sorry, I know his well drilling office is in Lithopolis Ohio. He lives up by Buckeye Lake, but I don't have address or phone number. He told me that the grandfather was v ery mean, and that so far as he knew NO ONE was adopted. He was kicked out or just left the family and ended in Vinton co. They were from over around Cincinnati. He said they had all given up on their lines. At one time he said there was a Short in Columbus or near there, that was said to be related but the family doubted it. You may be able to find him thru a telephone listing either Short Well Drilling or perhaps his name. He usually lunches at the Wigwam in Canal Winchester, but I do not get there very often now. That's about as much as I can help you with, I'm afraid. Carl has no sons, and his brother and cousins with the Short name are dead. Good Luck. Margaret Calvin.
Margaret, Is there any way you could put me in touch with this Carl Short that you mentioned so I could ask him some questions? Thanks, Becky Blystone
I was just looking for genealogy related info on southern Ohio and I found this old book related to Vinton county, if it helps anyone. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5524199379&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT Dave _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? He is a welldriller with base at Lithopolis OH but lives at Buckeye Lake. He has relatives buried west of McArthur. He said they came from KY, and they had not been able to trace further. There was a story that they were buried on the farm and no records of deaths etc listed. He had more info on his mother's side, but I don't remember details. I haven't seen him for a year, but did do some checking for him. His family visit the cemetery, according to him. I have no idea whether its related to your Short line, but it may well be worth investigating. Someone in Carl's family did investigate some. His cousin died a few years ago in Lancaster, OH. For what its worth. Margaret Calvin formerly of Canal Winchester.
I am looking for the birth records of my great-grandfather Francis (Frank) Albert SHORT. The complication to this story is that he may not have been born with the name Short. He WAS adopted and his mother's first name was Margaret. Her last name could have been either ABRAMS or BAUMGARTNER {or alt spellings} as well as Short. If someone has a way to do a look-up or if I can get some direction, I'd be grateful. Terri in FL

I am new to the list and am seeking burial and obituary for John White who died 27 Feb 1900 in Eagle Twp. per Vinton website thanks to the wonderful search engine. I am also seeking burial and obituary for his wife, Eliza J. who I'm told died 19 Jan 1905. I cannot locate her death on website so am not sure if she died in Vinton. Eliza was last shown as widow, aged 74 on 1900 Vinton Co., OH census in Eagle Twp., sheet 2A, as a grandmother living with William R. Dowles (?) age 45, and wife, Mary C. age 30. The surname is a guess since it is not clearly readable and I cannot locate them on 1910 census. I have been attempting to find Eliza's death for a very long time so any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Shirley Houk edythe98@aol.com
