James appears in the 1880 (Wilkesville) and 1920 (Elk) Vinton county census, and I believe his wife's name is Alice, although it's hard to decipher. Spelling of last name also found as MONOHAN.     3. It's me again. the 1850 census says that Almeda was born in OH and on the 1900 census for Ason, it says his mother was born in OH. I don't know if that helps and the census is not always correct. I don't find the Crowells at all on the 1860 census. Margie

    3. Trying to determine the parents of Almeda, b. 1828 in "WV," d. 1868 in Wilkesville, Vinton Co., OH. She married abt. 1843 Albert Crowell, son of Benjamin Crowell and Nancy VanZant. I believe Almeda died during, or shortly after, the birth of their son Ulysses. Other children were Julia, Mary J., William, Lucina, Frank, Ason L. and Albert Jr. The Crowells lived in both Meigs and Vinton counties. I found the following death record on the excellent Vinton site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohvinton/death4-4.htm 3497a 4-150 Phillips, Sherman 1942 Oct 30 74y1m11d McArthur, Ohio 12 I'd like to get a copy of this death record, or at least find out if any more details such as parents names are available. He may be the son of Lorenzo Phillips. Also looking for the death record of his Sherman's wife, Bertha (Monahan) who died about 1950. She supposedly was the daughter of James and Alice (Unknown) Monahan. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
