He was 53 years 11 months and 14 days old. He leaves to mourn for him five sons and four daughters, eight grandchildren, an aged father, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends. Interment Saturday at 2 pm by undertaker Martin in the Bowen Cemetery beside his wife who preceded him in death more than five years ago. Those acting as pall bearers were his brother in laws: Elias, Ernest, Moses, and Luther Perry and a nephew Edward Queen." Vales Mills Cor.

Two years ago he suffered a severe illness, one the following winter and last October, a thrid, from which he never fully recovered altho was working in his shop a few ago. Deprived of a companion for more than five years, his trials were many. He will be greatly missed at Boring Chapel where he was a faithful member and by his children of whom six are homeless.     3. SOURCE: Newspaper The Springfield Daily News August 19,1935 Obit of James B. Peck James B. Peck 76 of 1807 Lexington Ave died suddenly of a heart attack at 8:15a.m. Mr. Peck collapsed in front of 33 S. Belmont Avenue and his identification was not learned until 6 p.m. Friday when it was made by relatives. Mr Peck was born in Vinton County Ohio November 10, 1856. For many years he was engaged in farming and later became a builder and contractor. He had been retired for some years. Surviving him are his widow Mrs. Eliza Peck, 3 sons Foster and Russel Peck of Springfield and Elmer Peck of Columbus, 3 daughters Mrs. Zella Blair, of Troy, Ohio, Mrs Artie Kirkham of the Home Rd., Mrs Corrine Offutt of Springfield, 2 brothers George Peck of Vinton County, 1 sister of Vinton county and 14 grandchildren. The body was removed to the residence. Funeral services will be held Monday 2pm. at the Church of God on Hillside Avenue. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Randy Sue McKeever "Sarah J. Murdoch Dies At Her Home in Dundas Wednesday" Sarah Jane Murdoch, 89 beloved resident of Dundas, died at her home on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Murdoch who was born October 9, 1871, lived in her entire life in the same house in Dundas. She was the daughter of Patrick and Clorinda Ullom Murdoch and was the last surviving member of her family. Two daughters Mrs Clorinda Bond and Mrs Mabel Walz, who made her home with her mother, survive as do several devoted neices and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2:00pm in the Wrightsel Funeral Home McArthur with burial in Hixon-Hoffhine Cemetery in Dundas, in charge of the Wrightsel Company."

SOURCE: Obituary July 17, 1918 Mary Amanda McNutt, daughter of Samuel B and Mary Jane Ullom was born at McArthur, Ohio March 10, 1864 died at Columbus, Ohio July 6,1918, aged 54 years, 3 months and 27 days. She grew to womanhood in McArthur and on December 22, 1881 was united in marriage to Lance McGonagle Russell to which union one child Lydia Marie was born. On August 10,1889 the husband and father passed away and was laid to rest in the Elk Cemetery ( McArthur). In June 1893 she was again united in marriage to James H McNutt and to this latter union four children were born. Eric, Genevieve, Margaret and Robert. Genevieve dying in infancy. The home life continued a peacful and happy course for almost a ..(cut off) interrupted only by the tragic death of the daughter Margaret who was drowned in the waters of Paint Creek on May 31, 1913 On January 5, 1918 James H McNutt passed into the beyond and today but six months since the wife and children surrended him to the care of Heavenly Father, the children are again gather to pay a last loving tribute tot he children of the deceased, four stepchildren Harry and Lee McNutt of Springfield Ohio, Earnest McNutt and Bessie Himes of New Castle, Indiana, two grandchildren, Margaret Winters and Marcella McNutt, three sisters Eliza K King, Lena Thomason, Margaret Holland and two brothers Frank of Tacoma Washinton and Sanford Ullom of Logan, Ohio yet survive. Practically the entire life of the deceased has been spent in this community where she has commanded the respect and love of all. As a wife she was faithful and made a home which was all that the name implies. As a mother she was loving and sacrificing. as a friend and neigbor sincere and conscientious. She united with the Christian Church in McArthur in her youth until her death was a faithful and devoted follower of the Christ. In this hour of grief and sorrow her loved ones can surrender her to the care of a just and merciful God in perfect confidence." "It was a severe shock to the people of McArthur when word was received here Saturday morning of the death of Mrs Amanda McNutt, who died following an operation at Grant Hospital in Columbus Friday. Mrs McNutt had been afflicted for several years with a growth on her face, which had caused her pain and suffering. She had consulted and had been treated by specialists and physicians, but obtained no relief and an operation was decided upon with the result stated above. She is survived by one daughter Mrs E C Winters, Columbus; two sons Eric and Robert and three stepsons Lee and Harry McNutt of Springfield, Ohio and Ernest McNutt and one stepdaughter Bessie Himes of New Castle, Indiana; two brothers S.B. Ullom of Logan and Frank Ullom of Tacoma, Wash and three sisters Mrs Margaret Holland, Mrs Lydia King, and Mrs Lena Thomason of McArthur. Mrs McNutt was 54 years old and a life long resident of McArthur where she was highly respected and esteemed. The remains were brought her on Moday in charge of the undertaker Gaskill and taken to the house on South Market Street. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Christian Church at 1 o'clock pm conducted by Rev Stevens and interment was in the Elk Cemetery."

On the 28th day of May 1863 he was united in marriage to Amanda M Ullom Russell to which union four children were born. Eric Russell McNutt, Mary Margaret McNutt, Genevieve McNutt and John Robert McNutt of which children Genevieve died in infancy and Mary Margaret died in 1913 at the age of 13. four children by a former marriages Emmett Lee, Harry James, Ernest Cleveland, Elizabeth Birdie and Marie Russell Winters step daughter still survive. For the past twenty three years the deceased has resided in McArthur, Ohio where by his integrirty and industry he has established himself in the hearts of the community. As a husband faithful, as a father loving as a friedn and neighbor trusted James H McNutt has lived a life in this community worthy of the emulation of all. Shortly after marriage he united with the Christian church of this place and was a faithful follower of the Christ, until the hour of death, also for a number of years the deceased has been in the Masonic K of P and I O O F lodges,a faithful attendant and willing worker in all. To the loved ones who are left behind to the friends and associates whom have met here together to pay the last earthly tribute to the deceased, his life stands out as an inspiration a solace in this hour of sorrow, for surely his must be the reward which God holds out to his faithful children. SOURCE: Vinton County Newspaper Obituary Republican Tribune February 14, 1923 "Mrs Henrietta Salts" "Mrs Henrietta Salts, aged 74 years, died at her home in South Richland, Wednesday February 7 from pneumonia, contacted only the week before. She was the widow of the late Thomas Salts, a bright intelligent lady and highly respected. Her maiden namewas McKibbon, she was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and came to this county with the family when a young girl. The only living relatives living are: Mrs E.J. Fisher, Mrs PJ Brinkman, Mrs JF White neices and Chester McKibbon, nephew all of Pittsburgh, Pa' and Harry Cosgrove of Dunkirk, NY all of whom attended the funeral. The funeral seices were held Sunday in the M.E. church at Hamden, Rev Howeath of McArthur officiating, the M E Quartet of McArthur, Ernie Sprague - tenor, Allie Chatfield soprano, Mildred Moore alto, Chas. E. Carson bass and Miss Hattie Gill pianist, assisting in the service with appropriate hymns. Pall bearers were: Chas. Salts, Raymond Salts, Harry Cosgrove, Chester McKibbon, Fred Jarvis, Jas. Salts. Burial in the Hamden Cemetery; W W Tinker, funeral director in charge."

He leaves a second wife, and fourteen children, three of whom were by his first wife. The body was interred Tuesday at two o'clock in the Elk Fork cemetery.

He served in the US Army during the Spanish American War and had been Foreman on the Section for the Hocking Valley Railway at McArthur for many years until last fall when his failing health caused him to be retired with pay.
