I am trying to obtain an obit in Cleveland. I would like to find the survivors. Can anyone give me information of the Library in Cleveland, that could do a lookup on this obit, for me. His name is Alan Paul age 35 a victim of an auto accident on May 28, 1969 and his wife's name was June and 3 sons Kenneth 8, Dana 6, and Randolph 5. He died in Cleveland Clinic (Cuyahoga county )on June 20, 1969 and lived in North Canton (Stark county). Ancestry has it listed as Cleveland Cuyahoga county Res. 20,06 Vol. 19725 Ceilyi 049584. Cleveland has an on-line obit site but it is not listed there. The funeral home was Berkowitz and he was buried in Farmingdale, NY. Any advise appreciated. If he lived in North Canton, Ohio at the time of his death, the obit should be in the Canton Repository which has a website. I have never heard of a Berkowitz Funeral Parlor in Canton so it was probably a Cleveland business. It wouldn't hurt to check with the Repository just in case. ----- Original Message ----- From: faithie41 Sent: Monday, June 24, 2002 9:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHVINTON-L] RE: Genealogy Library in Cleveland I am trying to obtain an obit in Cleveland. I have just finished reading and putting up an index of the Chestnut Grove Cemetery , which is situated on the Hocking & Vinton County line. Some stones were missing and others were very hard to read. If you have family interred there that are not in the reading or if there have been errors to hard to read stones ,please notify me and I will add or correct the list. Thanks Faithie, I did some more digging. I am interested in the family of Eleanor (Ellen or Ella) Fagan who married Edward J. Simons. I just found her obituary and it lists a son named Edward Simons of Raton, New Mexico. It also lists a John Simons and a Lizzie Butt of Murray. I am fairly certain that this must be the same family you mentioned. Carl Weersing [email protected]
I spoke with my husband today about "Simons" and the Ed Simons would have been born around 1880's. Our Ed Simons was married to my husband's cousin Elizabeth (Lizzie), don't know her maiden name. Sorry couldn't be more help. You may possibly check with the Simmons family still in Vinton County. Simons may have become Simmons.
I looked for a Fagan or Simon marriage in the Vinton Co. book 1859 thru 1869 None listed. Might be a help to narrow it down Susie Simon

Carl, I am not sure which "Simons" you are referring to, but there was a Lizzie and Ed Simons, who were distantly related to my husband's grandfather. They lived, at one time, on the Johnson Mesa, NM, and of course, in OH. Let me know if you think this is the same family. I am looking for any information on the family of Patrick and Catherine FAGAN who lived in Wilkesville Township, Vinton County. From census records I figure they had at least 7 children. Baptism and cemetery records are confusing in that some of the children sometimes went by the last name FAGAN and sometimes by the name COLGAN. I am wondering if Catherine Fagan perhaps was first married to someone named Colgan? They attended the St Mary's Church in Minerton in Wilkesville Township. Son John Colgan and daughters Mary Colgan Carey and Eleanor (Ellen) Fagan Simons are buried at St Mary's Cemetery. I would like to know where the parents and other siblings are buried. Genealogy Look Up Forum is a website of volunteers who will do various types of look ups for people who is unable to obtain the information they need themselves. These look ups are in many States and Counties in the United States. The types of look ups this website offers to date are Birth, Census, Cemetery, Death, and Marriage records. New types of look ups will be added when they become available. Many of our volunteers have their own books or publications that they own in their possesion that they can make copies and mail to you. Somevolunteers will ask for reimbursement for copies and postage. The website even has a Message Board and a Look Up E-mail List supported by Rootsweb.com. Those are for people to post messages looking for information on their family if there is not a volunteer listed on the website for what you need looked up. New volunteers are always being added, so please keep checking back if you do not see a volunteer for the area you need. I just recieved an e-mail virus, probably unknown to the sender. It contained a sentence from a post I have on the Vinton site. The virus is a worm called W32 Klez which replicates it's self and mails automatically unknown to the host computer's owner. There are E-mail Bot programs that seek E-mail address's and can be used to do mischief. I suggest you use a virus program to isolate and destroy any virus ASAP. This particular virus came in a file name HREF.zip. Href is a HTTP web site programing term used to indicate the presence of a picture.
Hello everyone, I am new to the Vinton County list and wish to introduce myself and explain what I am looking for. On September 30, 2001, at the Beyer Family Reunion, I was nominated/ volunteered/ etc. into compiling a family history with a genealogy for the next reunion September 29, 2002. [I'm glad they picked me. I am having a great time; this is fun.] I plan to go to press around August 31. In the last 8 months, I have successfully debunked several family "histories". With the help of Rootsweb message boards, I have also been able to trace the Beyer/Boyer/Byer line 7 generations back to David Beyer. I have documentation that David Beyer was living in Elk Township, Vinton County with his second wife, Ann, at the time of his death in 1862. I have no information on any family prior to David, or his first wife (my 4-great grandmother), and little more than a name for my 3-great grandfather, Joseph Boyer. I believe Joseph died prior to 1852; the year his wife Frances (Snider) Boyer remarried (in Perry County). I welcome any and all help concerning these people and I'm willing to exchange what I have (once I get it into some type of order, probably August). Also, I am looking for other Beyer/Boyer/Byer relatives who would like to be included in our family history/genealogy and/or reunion. Please e-mail me directly at [email protected] regarding this. Thank you for listening to me, Sheila Thomas (nee Beyer) Searching for Byer/Boyer/Beyer, Keller, Daniel(s), Fisher, Helser, Wagner, Fleak, Daring, Shidegger, Swinehart, Crist, Soliday, Miller, Dorris, Helser, Zartman, & Ridenour relatives--so far. ________________________________________________________________ CPAs . . . I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 3857 prisoners on record from the state of Ohio and more than 1100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not concider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking ad will be posted on this county site only once. Dear Bryson & Vinton Researchers, I need some pointers!!!! PLEASE & Thank You. Here is the history: Abraham Bryson is documented on several US Census as being born in Maryland, in 1800. He married Nancy McKee who was born in Pennsylvania. There is documentation that his first four children were born in Virginia. He is documented moving to Guernsey County, Ohio and then to Vinton County. Abraham Bryson had land (82 acres) in Vinton County. The 1880 US Census showed that he at the age of 80, his son Abraham, John, Harrison, and daughter Louisa were still with him on the farm. Senior Abraham died 20 May 1884. Here is my problem: I am searching for Senior Abraham's family of origin. The only information I have found regarding his parents was coincidently on the 1880 Census reporting that father and mother were born in Ireland (family history states they are Protestant, so that may be a clue as to where to look.) His death certificate does not have parent information. Would a will possibly have that information? If so, where would I obtain it? Any suggestions? Sincerely, Diana Bryson-Brooks
