As for the information I have so far on Martha Vashti Woodruff her ancestors were from NJ. I do have a Lydia Woodruff born December 02, 1821 in West Milford, Passaic County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Cornelius and Drucilla Decker Woodruff. Cornelius was also from West Milford, New Jersey. He was the son of Joseph Woodruff bn. March 13, 1764 son of Benjamin Woodruff bn. 1728 and Margaret unknown. I don't have a marriage for her. However you may want to check out the following webpage on the Woodruff surname for more information. << <A HREF="http://www.nataliesnet.com/woodruff/desc02.htm#13756"> http://www.nataliesnet.com/woodruff/desc02.htm#13756</A> >>> I also have David Woodruff married Oliva Chase born NY abt. 1801. Ruth, I don't know the descendants for Benjamin and Martha V. Woodruff. I am trying to find them. If you find that your Lydia is related, let me known and as I work on this line and I find that Benjamin and Martha had a daughter by the name of Lydia I will contact you. I have had no luck in finding any other record except for the census records of 1850, 1860, 1870 all from Elizabeth Township, Lawrence County, OH. Hi, Everyone, In response to the conversation regarding on-line newspapers, I would like to share one of my favorite links: http://library.uncg.edu/news/nq-state.asp?dbstate=oh It is not totally comprehensive as it doesn't include the Youngstown Vindicator, (and a few others), but it includes enough newspaper links to make it very useful to me. Enjoy, Sheila PS: I am experiencing e-mail difficulties. Please forgive me if you receive this message twice. ________________________________________________________________ CPAs . . . Do you have the site for this Repository? Thank you, Faithie ----- Original Message ----- From: "GARY RADCLIFFE" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 25, 2002 3:06 AM Subject: Re: [OHVINTON-L] RE: Genealogy Library in Cleveland If he lived in North Canton, Ohio at the time of his death, the obit should be in the Canton Repository which has a website. I have never heard of a Berkowitz Funeral Parlor in Canton so it was probably a Cleveland business. It wouldn't hurt to check with the Repository just in case. ----- Original Message ----- From: faithie41 Sent: Monday, June 24, 2002 9:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHVINTON-L] RE: Genealogy Library in Cleveland I am trying to obtain an obit in Cleveland. I would like to find the survivors. Can anyone give me information of the Library in Cleveland, that could do a lookup on this obit, for me. His name is Alan Paul age 35 a victim of an auto accident on May 28, 1969 and his wife's name was June and 3 sons Kenneth 8, Dana 6, and Randolph 5. He died in Cleveland Clinic (Cuyahoga county )on June 20, 1969 and lived in North Canton (Stark county). Ancestry has it listed as Cleveland Cuyahoga county Res. 20,06 Vol. 19725 Ceilyi 049584. Cleveland has an on-line obit site but it is not listed there. The funeral home was Berkowitz and he was buried in Farmingdale, NY. Any advise appreciated. The Woodruffs' from Jackson, OH are quite possibly my husband's ancestors. We do not have much on them. The Martha, in question, could possibly be the sister of John Woodruff born 1861 in Jackson, OH. John is my husband's great-grandfather, and he married Catherine Elizabeth Myers. They had, at least, nine children. As I said, my information on the Woodruffs' is very scant. If our John is Martha's brother, I would appreciate any information you can share. Searching for a death certificate, will or anything for Joice Shifflett who was from Rockingham County, Virginia and moved to Vinton County, Ohio with her son. She had applied for a widow's pension i think from the war of 1812 from her husband Edward Shiflett in the Richland Township of Vinton County and it was accepted. I would like to get ahold of a copy of this or anything else that could help me in my search. Can anyone help? Much appreciated. Donna >
Hi, The Garrett Cem. is still there. I was there last summer. It was the LYLE/GARRETT family cemetery. Eli Garrett married Mary Ann Lyle (My GG aunt). They are both buried there along with other Garrett's and Lyle's. It is a beautiful cemetery about a mile and a half north of Allenville. I think I do have a photo of Eli's tombstone. Bill Lyle [email protected]
Are you the same one that mentioned the Garrett line earlier? Bill Garrett at Blower Funeral home in McArthur might be able to help you. The number is (740) 596-5222. I live close to McArthur but not sure where this cemetery is located. My grandparents lived in Allensville all their lives. If I have an opportunity to make a trip there, I will make a point to look for this cemetery to see what I might find for you. Faithie, I don't know if anyone else responded to you but I am planning another trip to the Ohio Historical Library on 07/05 or 07/06. If you do not get the copy by them I can look it up and print a copy and since I do not have a scanner I can snail mail the copy to you or email the entire obit to you. Please let me know.
