The following was printed in this Meigs Co. newspaper and seems to be a reprint from the Athens Messenger Republican Herald, Middleport, Friday, April 17, 1896 Dr. Andrew Wolf, a practicing physician in Vinton county for sixty-one years, died at his late residence in McArthur, Tuesday, April 7th. His father, Andrew Wolf, Sr., was one of the early pioneers of Athens county. Dr. Wolf was one of a family of ten children, the greater part of whom married and remained in this county, thus making the family connections quite numerous. He was in his 86th year at the time of his death and had lived a life of usefulness, watching the development of Vinton county and ever lending his assistance to further the interest of its people. The older citizens of this county, who remember him, will regret to learn of his demise -- Athens Messenger Transcribed by: Connie Cotterill Schumaker [email protected] Keep genealogy free! There used to be a lot of Trainers in Vinton County but I don't know if any of them are still there or how to contact them. The following cemeteries have been indexed and are now on line in Benton Township of Hocking County. The pages may get busy at first so keep trying if they do not up load at your first try . If you have relatives that are buried in these cemeteries that are not listed due to missing stones please notify me. These transcriptions are correct to the best of my knowledge. Since some stones were worn and hard to read there is a chance of some errors, if so please contact me. The spellings of names are transcribed as they appeared on the stones. Good luck and I hope this helps some find their missing links. I believe that Angelina is the daughter of Allen TOWNSEND and Sarah MCCASKY/MCCLOSKEY who resided in Meigs Co. There is an Allen and Sarah TOWNSEND in the 1850 census living in Columbia Twp., Meigs Co., Ohio with a daughter named Angelina who is 15 years old. Elizabeth Lantz died as a result of an auto accident, another teacher Eileen Cottrell was driving and pulled out of a ice cream place near Albany into on comming traffic. Lantz later died from the injuries. Lantz was my second grade teacher in McArthur at the old high school and was the principal at the new grade school built around 1967. Cottrell was my 7 or 8th grade English teacher in Allensville. Two other teachers died as a result of auto accidents. Carl Parker was killed by his wife in an accident while parking a car and Carol Sparks was struck by a dump truck as she crossed high street in McArthur, I was present at the scene in 1967.
I just came home from a trip to Vinton County and to their wonderful library in McArthur and have the obit for Arch LANTZ The McArthur Democrat Enquirer Newspaper dated October 14, 1931 "Arch Lantz, 63 died at his home here Tuesday morning after an illness of several months. He was not in good health for the past several years, and for the most of the summer had been confined to his home. Among the survivors are his widow Mrs. Ida Lantz; two daughters Margaret , teacher in the McArthur public schools, and Elizabeth, and a son Harry at home, a sister Maude, with whom he made his home. He was the son of the late Mr and Mrs David Lantz of McArthur. Lex Pearce of Missoula, Mont. and Ben Pearce of Flint, Mich are nephews and Mrs Wade Blaney ( Lois Pearce) of Toledo is a neice. Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. A.B. Kirkendall officiating. Interment in Elk Cemetery. Gaskill and Son in charge." I also have Ida Belle Saltz Lantz's obituary as well if you are interested. I have not entered them into my FTM files yet..they are fresh from the black books of Rosella Hunter's comiling! Bless that lady's heart! She still volunteers in the genealogy room although she is retired from the library! She is the best! I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you need Ida's obit too!
