My great-great-grandmother Minerva Nixon had a brother Clement. He was born 15 Dec 1864 in Vinton Co, and died 26 Feb 1921 in Delaware Co, OH; known children were Charles, Mabel, and Marie, wife was Cora ( ). This Clement was son of John and Catherine Sinclair Nixon, John son of William and Rachel Lenox Nixon, William son of George II and Hannah Wilson Nixon, and thus on back as the web sites and Dr Bell have given. And to Mr. Morgan--I believe you wrote to me earlier about your Nixon connection, and I may have something on it if you'e like to contact me again (duh, can't seem to find the notes I made earlier <g>). BTW, on my way from Colorado to OH for the OGS Conf in April, I went thru Henry Co ILL and found the gravesite for Rev. War George Nixon. Tacy

    3. There was quite a commotion about Howard Hughes? giving a lot of money to Pres. Nixon's younger brother who lived "up north" (Seattle?). You seem to have collected more information than the experts who set up these presidential genealogical sites, Mr. Morgan. Maybe you should try your hand at your own Nixon site. I can get you tombstone pictures. Gary Radcliffe West Covina, CA

    2. I'm afraid I didn't copy any of the Nixon files kept in the McArthur Library. I do have the Columbus Dispatch from April 28, 1994. There is an article on Edward from Seattle being 63 years old. I know that Frank died in the mid 1950s making him much older, my article on him from the 1980s is in storage somewhere that shows him in his Street car uniform in Columbus. There is a reference to Nixon living in a NJ home, I assume he died in New York City as mentioned in other posts elsewhere. >>Can you verify that Francis came down with TB and his mother took him to Arizona to cure him? And that he died young? Was he buried in Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, CA? My relatives in Yorba Linda have told me that story but I found nothing online. One presidential genealogy site says that both Richard and Pat Nixon died in Yorba Linda. I thought Richard Nixon died in NY or NJ. Both are buried at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda but I can't imagine either one of them dying in Yorba Linda where they had no home. Thank you, Mr. Morgan,

    1. Re: [OHVINTON-L] Nixons of Vinton county.
    2. I found a family history file of Nixon at Ancestry.com. There are about 1483 names mentioned going back to the year 1074. To me, anything beyond the 1500s is questionable at best unless there is good proof. A person likely took a name from the landowner. The file fails to mention many of the siblings in later years that should be in place, at least there are some not listed by Genealogist Raymond Martin Bell in 1956, Ed is mentioned only as 'Living// Nixon-1930.' I haven't found any on-line copies of Bell's work, only a note to the Nixon Library last February has produced a source for $8.00. One person believes that two Nixon families were in Vinton and Hocking at the same time. Nixon descendants still remain in Vinton County. And so the search continues. A photograph of Edward Nixon is available to those interested. R. Morgan, Ohio

    3. I checked Google and came up with nothing. I'd look further if I were you, maybe the censuses. Vinton County did not have a huge population. I found some NICSONs buried in the mausoleum right next to the in-ground NIXON burials and always assumed they were related but couldn't find them on any of the presidential genealogy sites. But there are plenty more of those sites that I didn't even get to. Some are more complete than others. Gary Radcliffe West Covina, CA

    3. I pass the grave of Richard Nixon's mother, Hannah, frequently. Only once have I seen flowers. They weren't even flowers, just pyracantha in an old coffee can from the Woman's Club of Whittier. Perhaps Quakers don't leave flowers at graves; I'd like to know. None of the Nixon graves ever have flowers. It's my understanding that the Nixon family moved to Indiana before California. Is that right? Please feel free to send a message to the list for each program that the chapter presents. I am sure it will be interesting to our subscribers. It may even help your attendance with our subscribers who live in the local area. I am also the President of the Hudson Genealogical Study Group Chapter of the OGS and lately I have been sending a message to each of our members who has an e-mail address. It seems to have improved our attendance at our programs.
