    1. Re: [OHVINTON-L] Jones/Elijah and Sarah Alexander
    2. Hello Kweers, Thank you for posting this census. I believe that this Elijah was the son of Jonatha B and Sarah A Jones., born July 1850 according to the 1850 census. "Baba Clark" sent me an 1850 census that listed Sarah Alexander, age 5, daughter of Caleb and Susan Alexander. After further investigation I believe that the marriage license of Nov 29, 1868 was for this couple, given the ages in this 1880 census. The license was applied for by Jesse H Jones, who was the uncle of Elijah, brother of Jonathan B Jones. The only reason I can come up with is that Jonathan B is listed in his father's (Elijah) will as living in 'unknown county' in Indiana and his son Elijah was not old enough to apply for the license without the consent of a guardian? Yesterday I found a marriage record on the LDS site of an Elijah Jones and Sarah Monrow, April 27, 1815 in Belmont County, Ohio. This may be Jesse H and Jonathan B's parents. My husband was told by another researcher that the older Elijah was married to Sarah "Alexander" but I believe this info is incorrect. This 1815 date would make more sense since the older Elijah and Sarah Jones' first child (Jesse H) was born in 1816. I'm hoping to go to Belmont county soon to check this out. Thanks again for you help. 3. Not to confuse the issue, but I am interested in finding more information about the following William and Jonathan Jones: Jonathan Jones, born in 1799 in KY, married Catherine Morrow, September 30, 1830 in Athens County, OH (they later moved to Buchanan County, MO and were in CA by 1850). William Jones, born about 1800 in KY, married Susannah Morrow on August 10, 1820 in Athens County, OH (they later moved to Buchanan County, MO and settled there). Susannah and Catherine Morrow were sisters and it is assumed that William and Jonathan Jones were brothers. They all lived in Elk Township (which later became part of Vinton County) and left that area in the late 1830s and early 1840s. William and Susannah had a son named Levi which has made me wonder about a possible connection with the Levi Jones family in Vinton County. I would appreciate hearing about any possibilities. FOX (Thomas Calvin Fox) By judicious efforts as a farmer and general merchant, Thomas C. Fox has created a liberal prosperity for himself in the Locust Grove community of Jackson Township, Vinton County. Mr. Fox has been in business at the Locust Grove community for the past nineteen years. He has a fine store in a building 24x42 feet, well stocked with general merchandise of every kind required by a country community. Thomas C. Fox was born in Hocking County, Ohio, August 18, 1869, and was reared and educated there, which remained his home until his removal to Locust Grove. He is a son of Thomas J. and Elizabeth (Grimes) Fox, who were natives of Ohio and were reared in Belmont County. His father graduated from high school and learned the carpenter's trade and became a skilled mechanic. He was married in Belmont County, and after two children were born to them they moved to Hocking County, where he bought a small farm in Perry Township. He died there in July, 1875, when only thirty-two years of age. His widow afterwards married Henry Spencer, a farmer in Hocking County, where he died after the birth of six children at the age of fifty-five. She was born in Perry Township of Morgan County, Ohio, May 21, 1873, and was reared and educated there. Her parents were Curtis and Susanna (Poling) Hunter, who were married in Hocking County and spent their lives on a farm there. 3. >From the McArthur Democrat-Enquirer, November 12, 1919 (TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: If anyone on the list is researching the STANLEY family from Knox Township, I would love to exchange information. I am trying to find the connection with the CHESSER family. Thanks, Carol Beattie, [email protected] net) "KNOX NO. ONE The weiner roast and soup supper at Gum Tree was a success both financially and sociably. Large crowd attending that was expected. The proceeds amounted to $13.65. The all-day meeting that was postponed last week was held Sunday. Quite a few assembled to hold communion with Thee. Sunday School in the forenoon. At the noon hour a bountiful dinner was prepared and spread before them. In the afternoon Luster STANLEY of Athens, gave a very interesting talk in regards to the Coming King and the last days that we are now living. Owing to the failing health of our old friend W. M. STANLEY making it impossible for him to care for his corn crop that was raised, the friends decided to give him a corn husking. The boys went in the fields with lots of pep and the crop was about husked out. Uncle Billy as he is known among the boys is afflicted with rheumatism making it a difficult matter for him to attend to the farms that he owns. Those attending were: Arch STANLEY, W. M. HOLDREN, Eugene FORREST, George STANLEY, Clyde STANLEY, A. D. FORREST, and Jack SCOTT. While traveling along our roads since the heavy rains we find quite frequently where autoes have stuck in the mud. In order for the parties to get the machines out and go on their journey again they take rails and boards and in many incidents we find that these have been left in the road. Parties may have done this unthoughtedly or in a fit of passion jumped into their fliver and with a curse to the bad roads drove on, not realizing what a condition they left the road. The rails left there-in are dangerous to both horses and machines. Nails left in these boards are liable to puncture tires for other machines and the rails may break someones vehicle. We would therefore appreciate in Knox No. 1 if same would be removed hereafter. If you are out of the mud and say that you will never be in such a mud road again, remember that there is another fellow that will travel this road besides you. W. M. MC WHORTER and wife of Mineral have been spending the week with W. M. HOLDREN W. M. STANLEY and Clyde STANLEY delivered a load of potatoes to Marshfield one day last week. Mildred HOLDREN who is working at Albany spent the week end at home. Willie TROUT who is spending a few days at home, was a visitor at Marshfield Sunday. Clovis and Mildred CHESSER came down from Millersport one day recently and have started to school. A. D. FORREST recently purchased a cow of W. M. THROCKMORTON. Osie TROUT who has been spending a week with friends at Millersport came home Wednesday. Dollie MACE of Carbondale was the over Sunday guest of W. M. HOLDREN. Vernon CANNY was the guest of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Armstead MACE at Mineral a few days last week. George MC WHORTER and H. GRIFFIN were callers in our vicinity last week. Floyd STANLEY and family of Pomeroy spent Sunday with Miles TOWNSEND. George CHESSER of Guysville, spent Sunday as the guest of his parents Amos CHESSER and wife. Eddie WARD passed thru our vicinity Sunday enroute to Carbondale. Clinton JEWELL of Albany, spent Sunday with Eugene FORREST. Virgil SHINGLER is helping W. M. HOLDREN with his farm work.
