Rob, I have a Howard Brooks in my Brooks family. I am out of town right now and don't have all the dates with me, but Howard is the son of David and Martha(Mattie)Quick Brooks. He would have been born in the late 1800's and I'm not sure what his son's name is. Howard had a sister Goldie and a sister named Laura I believe. At one time I believe Howard lived in Colorado and New Mexico. Howard also had a daughter living in Ross County, OH. in 1949. Does any of this fit in with some of your info? Jerri
Is there any member of the sage family left in vinton co.Thanks Joan
Is there a Howard Brooks in this line ? All I know is that he married Anna Waldron and I know they had at least one son name LeeRoy Brooks, born August 5th 1922. Let me know if I have the right line. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jerrihuston@netzero.net> To: <OHVINTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 16, 2004 10:48 PM Subject: [OHVINTON-L] Brooks brothers > > Hi Mike, > > Yes, Jacob and William Brooks were brothers. I have information on a Jacob L. Brooks and a William Brooks who married into the Thorn family in Vinton County. I do not know if Jacob and WIlliam were brothers, and I'd appreciate any further information that list members can provide. Here's the information I have: Jacob L. Brooks, born April 1848 in Ohio (per 1900 Vinton Co. OH census), married Levisa M. Thorn about 1888. William L. Brooks, born July 28, 1849, died September 07, 1927 in Vinton County, Ohio, buried in Putnam Chapel cemetery. William married Roxana Thorn on August 19, 1872 in Vinton County, Ohio. Levisa and Roxana were daughters of William Thorn and Mary Ann Leesure. I am going for my second time in 2 years, next month, to Vinton County & Athens County. I am searching for Brooks graves. I know there are some in New Marshfield, some in Keeton, and some in a Brooks graveyard. I am searching for a grave of an Archibald Brooks born about 1802. Does anyone know where that may be? Who are you looking for? There are a number of them at Shiloh Cemetery at the intersection of Ohio Rt. 683 and county road 41.In 1978 there were 6 Remy graves in Randerson Church Cemtery and some in Bell Cemetery at Allensville. The ones in Bell Cemetery in 1978 were: John E. & Blanch P. Remy and Hiram and Ida Mae Remy. There may be more now. Let me know if I can help. From Tombstone Inscriptions of Eagle, Jackson, Richland Twps, Vinton Co., OH, looks like there are Remy/Rameys buried at Wycoff, Bell, Cassill, Randerson, Mt. Zion, & Shiloh. I have ROOTS from Athens, Meigs and Vinton counties Ohio who migrated to Fremont Iowa in the mid 1850's - IRWIN & REEVES. I wonder if I might hear from some people who have a knowledge of how these people traveled this route. Did they come via Missouri River ? Where did they depart ? How did they transverse over to Thurman or Green Twp. ? I would certainly be glad to hear your thoughts and if anyone knows where I can find more information on this particular subject I would be most appreciative. Thanks, Dave - Famsource@aol.com
