Erie county was established in 1838 from Huron and Sandusky counties. In 1840 it expanded to its present size and Sandusky is the county seat. Ron > Some of my gen. research goes back to Sandusky. Hi, Does anyone know if there are any extant tax lists from Vinton County? I am looking in particular for the time period of 1855 - 1885 If they do exist where can I look at them. I have checked the LDS website and they don't list any for Vinton. thanks for any help, Nan --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 50x more storage than other providers!
Now that I have thought about it....I realize that I am mistaken. I know which cemetery that you are talking about and it is not the Prose/Kaler Cemetery.
Are you talking about the cemetery also known as Prose Cemetery or Kaler Cemetery that is above Rt 93? I am always confused by the different names. I think I have seen it listed as Pleasant Valley or Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Hi could you please give me the email address. Thank you, Fawn EBY GUTRIDGE bgutridge@ee.net -----Original Message----- From: Marjorie L. Is there anyone out there with a complete list of the burials in The Mt. Pleasent Methodist Cemetery. I have my Great, Great Great and Great Great Great Grandparents buried there. I have been there a few times and am trying to photo document the entire cemetery and figure if I had a list to go by it would make it easier to photograph them. Also who can I notify to let know that there is a stone there that I want to try to fix? I have tried to call the Church and there is never an answer. Not even sure if it's still in use or not. I would appreciate any and all information. Thanks Rob Schrader

Carolyn Kelly of Indiana: It appears that Andrew Burns served in the same unit as my Great Grandfather, James McCafferty. However, he did serve with the 7th Ohio Volunteer Calvary. Have you determined that your Andrew Burns served with the 7th? I recall some years ago visiting the excellent Ohio Museum in Columbus and I found my grandfather's name in some of the books about the 7th Calvary. It might be concidence, but they may have served in the same company. Trying to reconstruct what the units did during the Civil War is a big task, but it can be done. Just have to do lots of digging. You can get pretty good records of Civil War veterans from National Archives. Their pension records are pretty good sometimes. I've always been told that our Burns is not related to this one, or at least close enough that anyone knew. My g-grandfather, John Burns, came to Vinton County from Mass. His son, my grandfather, Chester, died in 1931 and is buried in Hamden cemetery also. Might be some information on your line at the McArthur Library--they have a pretty good family history section. Lots of obits, etc. Ronda Griffith-Grubb At 02:27 PM 8/9/2004 -0400, you wrote: >Looking to clarify : >1) Andrew W Burns Died Feb 1, 1904 tombstone info: >Co G Ohio Calvary Civil War > >2) Andrew Burns Born Nov 13, 1831 Died June 26, 1889 >58 yr 7 mon 110 d Civil War > >This info from Hamden Cemetery. > >One of these men are presumed to be the father of Gabriel Burns (1853-1929), >my great-great grandfather. Message for Carolyn: VO4 # 97 Check if your civil war soldier was in the 7th Calvary. My James McCafferty was in Co. G. He is buried in Ratcliff Cemetery along with his wife, Melissa Sharp McCafferty. I found his name in a book about the civil war at the Ohio Historical Museum in Columbus, OH. This was several years ago. Also if your soldier was a member of the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) you could look for records which might be in Vinton, County , hopefully the library. I know some LDS Burns, so the info you are searching for is probably at www.lds.org under family history. That family is from around the Greenville area in Ohio. I think there is a pic at the Annie Oakly Museum or (is it called Garst Museum). A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for. - William Shedd >From: Burnsgenealogy1@aol.com >Reply-To: OHVINTON-L@rootsweb.com >To: OHVINTON-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [OHVINTON-L] re: Andrew Burns Civil War >Date: Mon, 9 Aug 2004 14:27:39 EDT > >Looking to clarify : >1) Andrew W Burns Died Feb 1, 1904 tombstone info: >Co G Ohio Calvary Civil War > >2) Andrew Burns Born Nov 13, 1831 Died June 26, 1889 >58 yr 7 mon 110 d Civil War > >This info from Hamden Cemetery. > >One of these men are presumed to be the father of Gabriel Burns >(1853-1929), >my great-great grandfather.
