The site has information on people that I know about and on ancestors of the last person for whom I have information. I want to scan through the outline tree to find my direct ancestoral line in the tree earlier than the last person for whom I have information. My problem is that the site is large (2867 pages) so it is not feasible to print out the whole file. If I start in the file at the last person for whom I have information and go backwards through the file page by page, I have to skip past lots of pages of persons who are not of interest to me in my tree. I started going backwards through the file, but after a short time, I decided that the approach was not very fruitful. Can someone suggest a logical process for searching through a large outline descendent tree looking for direct ancestors? Thanks!!!!!

    2. I am looking for any information on Walter M Beecher and Emily Jane Sherwood, my great-great grandmother and grandfather. I know that they were married in Union County, Ohio, December 10, 1854 (LDS). Walter Beecher was born in the early 1830-40's and died at the age of 74. Jane Sherwood born same time period. In a letter from my grandfather, Walter Beecher was supposed to have lived in Union County his whole life, do not know about Jane Sherwood. Any help would be great appreciated. Peggy

    2. Bremer,Robert
    3. Hello All, I attended a conference out-of-state over the past few days and was away from email beginning this last Thursday evening until this evening. While making my way through the 650 messages that had accumulated, I began reading the string of recent messages on OHUNION-L which have gone far off the topic of Union County genealogy and history. Messages on this list should be related to Union County genealogy and history or present information that would be of interest to people researching Union County genealogy and history. Reposting private messages from others without their permission is not permitted. Disagreements which people wish to continue a discussion should be conducted via private email. Other subscribers do not need to be subjected to email arguments. Posting flame messages only drives people off the list making it much less useful. Everyone make may a mistake now and then. I am not inclined to boot anyone off the list unless there are repeated problems, so everyone take a deep breath, think about what you are posting to this list, and stay within the guidelines mentioned above. Let's get back to the discussion of Union County, its people and history. Thanks. Best wishes, Robert Bremer bremerr@oclc.org OHUNION-L list coordinator Union County OHGenWeb coordinator

    3. Actually, if I remember my history right, Union County came out of Franklin, Delaware, and either Madison or Champaign counties. Hence the name Union. Don't know about specific townships, though. The Darby Plain probably refers to the lowland around Darby Creek. Hi, Sue! I know that it's probable that some helpful soul has written to you privately and given you better answers than I can. But on the off chance that know one has responded -- here's what I have. Champaign County was formed in 1803 from parts of Franklin and Greene Counties. Madison County was formed in 1810 from Franklin County. Union County was formed in 1820 from parts of Delaware, Franklin, Logan, and Madison Counties. Using those dates and a good map (atlas) you should be able to follow that family. But there is no Pike Twp. in Union County. There is, however, a Pike Twp. in the Northwest corner of Madison County, bordered by Union County to the North and Champaign County to the West. The "Darby Plain" is probably the flood plain of both Little Darby Creek and Darby Creek. Both were major sources of water for the pioneers in the area that you're talking about. I hope that helps. Happy hunting! 3. Is the part of Madison County, Ohio, that was Pike Twp., now in Union County? Did any townships of Union County or Madison County become Champaign County? I am interested in Goshen Twp. in Champaign Co. and if it was once in Union or Madison County. What is meant by the Darby Plain? I am trying to follow a family that was listed in 1820 Pike Twp.Census through the county changes. Sue
