Would anyone know where I might find old employee records for this company? Thanks in advance for any help that anyone might offer me. Jacquie (California)
I have become aware of stale data relating to my family that is in WWW data bases and CD-ROMs (which you can buy$). The best thing about WCP on RootsWeb is that I can/may correct my GEDCOM 24/7! Hi New to the list, Looking for surname: MADER. Anyone out there researching this name? Anyone with references to do lookups? Family originally from Germany. Four brothers immigrated to states starting in 1831, Johannes, Jacob Friedrich, Carl Friedrich, and Wilhelm Heinrich. All four started out in Ross Co, in Chillicothe. My gr gr grandfather William Henry (americanized) stayed in Ross, Johannes went to Highland, and Jacob Frederick (Americanized) went to Circleville in Pickaway Co. Looking for Carl, or Karl or Charles. Have seen his name listed all three ways. Might also be some sisters. Help!! Sandy
Dear Listers, I have a [single] split page of the above census posted here: http://home.earthlink.net/~jacquiebaral/1920USCensus.html - My maternal BISHOPs are at the bottom of the page. If you have trouble reading some of the names, here's what I can read from my copy: REXROOD/REXROAD EMSMINGER CARLSON REYNOLDS 2 - JENKINS DIXON BASORE ROSENBERRY BOUR???? BAUMAN ECKERT CROSS WARD BISHOP CHURCH ??? page cuts off here. I hope this page helps someone! Jacquie (USA, California)
Hi, This URL is for the newbies on the lists. http://www.pbs.org/kbyu/ancestors/ "The companion web site to the PBS family history and genealogy television series." Just watched the 4pm show about "wills & land records". Jacquie (USA, California)
Dear Listers, I want to thank you all for the wonderful directions you have given me to the Ohio Historical Society (To there as well as inside). My husband goes past there on his way to work and knows the building, which will make it easy; he can drop me off on his way and pick me up on his way back without going out of the way. I will definitely check out their website so I can be somewhat prepared. I may need to get some inter-library loans as I will want to read all of the copies they have of the West Liberty Banner. Unfortunately I didn't realize how late in the month it was and my sitter is getting married next weekend and off to Barbados for a week so I'll have to wait till she gets back... Oh well, plenty of time for me to organize and prepare. Thanks again, Kelly Smith Marysville, Ohio _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Dear Listers, My husband works in Colombus and I was thinking of finding a babysitter some day soon and going in with him to the Ohio Historical Society to do some research. My problem is I don't know where it is. and is the Ohio Historical Society the place I want to go? Could someone please tell me where it is and directions from Marysville (33 into Columbus). Thank you, Kelly (and please, don't ask me to do look-ups as I have never been there before and I have a lot to look up myself. If all goes well, I'll go back again and possibly do some look-ups then.. thanks) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. In 1959 several lawsuits were filed against the City for allowing the cemetery to deteriorate. Individual stones had already been removed "through error and misunderstanding" but members of the Bridgeton Historical Commission were able to learn the names of some who were buried there and a large monument was erected in 1963 which bears this inscription, "We honor the people buried here. They were part of this nations adventure and their vision lighted the path we follow today." At the dedication ceremonies, Mrs. Anna Wilson gave a talk about colored veterans who are buried here. Records indicate that the cemetery was integrated from its beginning in 1958. It was in use as late as 1954 and at least 100 people are buried in the two acres. Hi, Searching for something else and found this site, http://www.kinfinder.com/deaths/LickCoDeaths.htm - Wanted to pass it on in case it would helpful to someone. Jacquie
Hello, I don't want to bore anyone with this message but just in case it may HELP someone else I'm going to post it. Also, I want to thank Anne Marie and Kelly for taking the time to write me about the idea of checking records of incarceration for "missing" ancestors. http://www.drc.state.oh.us/web/records.htm . I've been on the phone for less than an hour filtering down the best location of records dating back to the mid-1900s during the Prohibition Era. I called the Northern District (Akron area) 330-375-5774 and found no such person listed there and records do not go back that far. This office sent me to the state branch # 330-643-3010 and still no such person and their records do not go back that far either. The state branch gave me a Bureau of Research and the clerk's name and # 614-728-1176 which no one answered. I then did a search and found http://www.drc.state.oh.us/web/phonedirectory.html. I called the Bureau of Records Management # 614-752-1076 and talked with a nice lady who did a records search for me and found no such person since "Basic information on offenders dates back to 1940." However, I was told that OLD prison records had been moved to the State Archives/Ohio Historical Society # 614-297-2510. I called and spoke to a very nice lady, told her about my long line of "incarceration" calls and what ancestor I was looking for during the Prohibition Era and where he'd vanished from - Union County. As best as I could understand over a rather poor phone connection, I understood that the Historical Society has indexes for the Ohio Penitentiary and the London Prison Farm. As luck would have it (and thank the Lord I'm having some good luck with my family mystery) the Historical Society found a record of my BISHOP death certificate request from July. But I won't be hearing anything until next month about that request. I was also told that since I was asking about prison records I would have to send another request for a separate search but, that IF and when a DC is (hopefully) found on my ancestor, it too could have a prison listed on it IF in fact he died in a prison or reformatory. So, in theory, you could be simply hunting for a death certificate and accidentaly discover that your ancestor had been incarcerated at the time of their death. Thank you for your time in reading this far. Good luck to everyone in hunting that one elusive ancestor! Jacquie (California)
Hi, I found a family surname BISHOP listed as owners of a funeral home in Albert Co. New Brunswick, Canada - http://www.preplannet.com/canfh.htm. Here's the US link, http://www.preplannet.com/usafh.htm. Maybe this site will help others who may be looking for funeral homes and (hoping) to obtain records (if they still have any). The page's applets make the site's downloading slow. Here's examples of what else I found, http://www.fhnfuneralhome.com/obituary.htm - http://www.fhnfuneralhome.com/obitarchive.htm - http://www.kittinger-fairfuneralhome.com/. Funeral homes that have web sites have obituary pages too. I hope this posting helps someone else.
