But I was told by one lady stuck in her tree, that she told him what she was looking for and for $100 received hard copies of German documents containing 5 generations back beyond what she had been able to find. I do not know the man but thanks to him I have found more than I could have found on my own. http://heritagepursuit.com/ When the page opens go down to union county. He moved to Milford Center in 1823, being among the pioneers a of that township. The same year he was married to Miss Susanah Kingery, a Virginian. He was a hatter by trade, and began the struggles of life with little, if any means. He applied himself closely to his business, and with the elements of energy and frugality accomplished success. He was of a quiet unostentatious nature and a lover of home. In 1835, he purchased 500 acres of land upon which he resided until near the close of his life, in 1882, in the eighty-second year of his age. The widow who survives him resides in this city at the advanced age of eighty-one years. Their children are Rolls, eldest son, who married Anne. Deland, and resides in Platt County, Ill.; John, Jr.; William D., who enlisted in August. 1861, in Company B, Thirty-second Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was killed at the battle of Atlanta, July 22, 1864; James, who enlisted in same regiment and served the full time of enlistment, and was discharged in August, 1864; and George D., who married Sarah Converse, of this county. The subject or this sketch was born in Milford Center, Union Township, February 13, 1826. He was raised on the homestead farm, and in 1847 was married to Miss Harriet, daughter of William and Mary Stansfield. She was of English descent, and with her parents came to this country when she was seven years of age. Her father was a merchant at Columbus, Ohio, some years, and died while on a visit to Illinois in 1836. His widow subsequently removed to Shawnee County, Kan., where she died in 1861. Mr. M. disposed of his estate in Union Township, in 1876, and moved to this city, where he has since lived in quiet retirement. He served his native township as Justice of the Peace eight years and Trustee for seven years, and was otherwise identified with the township. He is the father of six children, five of whom are living, viz.; Emily L., Elizabeth A., Francis I., John M. and Carrie M.

This came to me from the Hocking Ohio List. I took this survey, it is a bit lengthy but interesting. The Fullerton Genealogy Study Informed Consent for the Fullerton Study of Genealogists - Genealogy Survey A Master's Thesis Project by Pamela Drake California State University, Fullerton Nearly 60% of U.S. residents participate in some genealogical activities. Yet there is sparse information about the millions of people involved in this rewarding hobby and what needs are met by the pursuit of one's ancestors. A thesis project designed to address these questions is being conducted at California State University Fullerton. Interested genealogists and family historians are being asked to fill out a 20 minute survey online. All information will be anonymously collected and no identifying information about individual answers will be divulged. Dear Lists: With the gracious help of a very kind soul, I'm going to take a different approach to hunting my mysterious maternal grandfather, Harold Lee BISHOP born August 1900 in MA. According to 2 Akron obituaries, dated 1939 for his father Howard Emerson BISHOP and 1940 for his step-mother, Theresa, Harold Lee was not mentioned in either one. Although, his sister, Georgina M. was mentioned in both. (Georgina died in 1977 in Akron.) Harold Lee's & Georgina M's mother, Margaret Jane HAYMAN-Bishop died 1921 and is buried in East Akron Cemetery (although no marker has been found). A large scale search for a death certificate for Harold Lee BISHOP has turned up nothing! For Harold Lee BISHOP, I have scoured the SSDI and every other suitable database I can find (even in Canada) to no avail. I was wondering if anyone had easy access to directories for the Summit County areas of Sawyerwood, Barberton & Akron -- and the -- Union County area of Marysville & Plain City and the Madison County area of Plain City from the year 1926 to 1939 to see if there is a Harold Lee Bishop is listed anywhere in those areas. Sometime between 1922 and to his 1926 disappearance, Harold Lee BISHOP was to have worked as a garageman for a man named Briggs Mercer at "MERCER'S GARAGE" in the Madison Co. portion of Plain City. [NOTE: A Harold L. Bishop with wife Dorothy B. was found in 1940s directories - this person was also named Harold Lee Bishop - he is not my missing grandfather.] Much thanks in advance for any help that anyone might be able to give me. Seeing Kelly's note on the Courthouses reminds me that about two years ago some gentleman has announced that he, in cooperation with the Union County Historical Society, was going to publish a book on businesses in Union County prior to the turn of the century (1850 to 1900). I have never heard anything of that since. My great (3X) uncle, Thomas S. Loveless, had the Loveless, _______ , & _________ Fur & Textile Co. in Marysville from about 1850 to 1890. I would love to get my hands on a picture of the store or an ad that might have been placed in county newspapers. It was a major fur trading company that delt in all sorts of general supplies of the time. Can anyone help me with this? Jim in Kansas City. Kelly Smith wrote: > I just found a relly neet site..
