Hi To All I am now working on the Schmidt Family. Andreas (Andrew) Schmidt was my Great Great Grandfather. This is what I have on Andrew Schmidt - Resided on E. Sixth Street, Died Sunday last from the effects of la grip, aged 74 years, 8 months and 20 days. The funeral services were held at the Ev. Lutheran church Tuesday, and the remains were afterward conveyed to Trinity Lutheran cemetery, south of town, for burial. Mr. Schmidt was born May, 1819, at Hoefen, Germany, where he grew to manhood and served six years in the army. In 1847 he came to this country and settled at Manchester, Md., where shortly after he was married to Catharine Kapp. In 1852 they moved to Union County where they continued to reside to the close of life. He was a good, quite citizen, and since the death of his wife which occurred two weeks ago, his desire was to depart and be at rest with her. This is the information I have on his wife: The wife of Andred Schmidt, who resides on East sixth Street, died Mnday, after a short illness, aged seventy-seven years. the funeral services were held at two o'clock today in the Lutheran church of this city, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. F.W.C. Wiechers. the interment was made at the cemetery in the Settlement. I have both their death certificates. Each certificate shows the name "Smith" not "Schmidt". Last fall I went to the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery and found their markers. Andrew died 28 Jan 1894 and Catharine died 15 Jan 1894. First, they were both born in Germany. Does anyone have any information on them in Germany. Second, I believe I have the names of their children correctly, but not sure. 1) John M Schmidt - Know nothing about him. Can't find his name in St John's Cemetery or Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. 2) Margaretha Schmidt married Casper G. Scheiderer 1) Phillip Scheiderer 2) Mary Scheiderer 3) Anna Scheiderer Hinderer 4) Magdalena Scheiderer 5) William Scheiderer Age 16 - In 1894 when Andrew died 6) Elizabeth Scheiderer Age 14 - In 1894 when Andrew died 7) Caroline Scheiderer Age 12 - In 1894 when Andrew died 8) Richard Scheiderer Age 10 - In 1894 when Andrew died 9) Emilie Scheiderer Age 7 - In 1894 when Andrew died 3) Mary Schmidt Winkler (I can remember as a kid my grandmother talked about her. 4) Magdalena Schmidt Ell (Great Grandmother) All of the above were mentioned in Andrew's will. I have found Margaretha and Casper G. Scheiderer in St John's Cemetery. Also, I believe Phillip Scheiderer is buried in St John's also. Like I said before I know nothing about John M Schmidt and I do not know who the Scheiderer girls married. I am planning a trip to the Marysville Library early sometime this week. Can anybody help me out? Thanks a bunch for your time. Barbara
Hi, Everyone! A few days ago my husband and I decided to photograph the Woods-Reed Cemetery in Union Twp., east of Milford Center. I've just gotten the photos and some additional information about the cemetery online. There are no links to the page from any other pages yet, but I'm hoping to remedy that no later than Monday. In the meantime, I thought that some of you might like to take a look--the URL is pretty long and may not reach you on one line. In that case the link will be incomplete. You can solve any problem by doing a copy & paste of everything inside the parenthesis: (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rocky/union_cems/woodsreed.html) Happy hunting! Is there anyone that has access to the microfilm for 1880 for Union Co.? I need just the places of birth of one person and her parents checked. I have (I hope) the exact page reference from my CD index for Ohio: Mitchell, John Union Twp p. 69C. >From his household I need the place of birth of his wife, Susannah, and the place of birth listed for her parents. Her father is thought to have been born in PA and served in the Revolution as a captain, but this census record would be the only proof that her father really was the one from PA. Her name was LYDIA TURNER and his name was BENJAMIN P GLASCO. They were married in Clark County in October 1841. Their first four children were born in Clark County: >> If I were you I would find the 1840 census for Clark co OH. The look for Turner, there might be a few of them, maybe not. But go down thru it until you find a female who fits her age bracket. If more than one has a female who fits her age bracket, then more work is required. Her parents may have stayed in Clark co. Go to the GenExchange and ask for a free lookup for the info you are looking for. I am not sure what to ask for, but even look at the history of Clark co 1883, DeBeers, or the closest history to that date, and see if any Turner are on it. Sometimes you have to work backwards to find info. I have had to do that also. Ask for a free lookup at Clark co GenExchange and see if they have any male Turner buried in any clark co cemeteries. If they do them maybe you can begin to narrow it down to one or two that would probably fit the age group. You have to just keep thinking of different ideas on what info you might look at that may give you a clue or some info. hope this helps. This may not be the correct James W but I provided all I found on a James W Scott. In the newspaper article of 1 Oct 1896, it says he died on Thursday. If you want to find out what day this was on, go to my site and click on - what day was that on. When you get to the site, go down and find 1896, then go to Oct and then to 1 and that will be the day of the newspaper. Then find the Thursday before that and see what date it was. That will most likely be his death date. I looked on my 1850 census index for Ohio and James Scott is on it 164 times, so I have no idea which one it is. There is no James W Scott on it, but he may be listed under plain James Scott. Scott is a plentiful name and there are many names the same. On my 1870 census index of Ohio, I found one James W Scott, age 16, in union co, Jackson twp, on page 77. This is probably the one who married Ethalynda Davis, above. Maybe not, you never know. I looked up Scott, James on the 1870 OH census index and men about age 55 to 64, none were in the three counties you mentioned that your "mix" was in. Have you written to the Marysville court house yet? If he died in Marysville OH, union co, then he may have an estate file or will file at the court house. Write to them giving them as much info as you have on him -- birth date, death date. Tell them you want a copy of each page in his folder. If they have it they will write back to you telling you how much money to send them for the copies. Each page they copy will cost you 50 cents. These documents contain much info. The auction tells what he had and tells who bought it and for how much. So this way you can see who his neighbors were at the time of his death. Maybe some of his kids will be mentioned and his wife will be mentioned if married again and will tell what her dower is. It will tell what his wife can keep. If they don't have any file on him they will not write to you. Even so it may take them a month or more to write back even if they have a file on him. Be patient. Good luck. Hope this helps you some or adds some info you don't already have. Larry http://unioncoohio.homestead.com My Union County, OH, genealogy help web site. I'm trying to sort out the many, many Orahoods that have lived in Union, Champaign, and Logan Counties. They're all connected and descend from one couple in VA. Rumor is that they made up the name when they came from Scotland. If you have Orahoods that married into your family, I'd like to hear from you. Thanks very much, Jeanne jcrews@eriecoast.com
Hi I just joined this list and I must say people on this list respond rather quickly. I appreciate all the replys on my two messages. All four of my great great grandparents are buried in Union County, so it makes it easier to track my family tree. Also, I stayed at my grandparents farm in West Mansfield when I was between the years of 3 and 10. I must say they were great years. My goal is to visit every cemetery in Union County that I have a connection with. By the way last year I did a lot of e-mailing with Margaret Bouic and met her last fall at the Marysville Library. She is a wonderful person and would do anything in the world possible for you. Also, the girls at the Probate Court went out of their way to help me locate the records and do all the copying I wanted. My cousin and I spent the whole day there. Again, thanks to one and all for all of your assistance. Its great to meet new friends that have something in common with each other. Barbara

Hi I am trying to locate information on my great great grandparents. Her name was LYDIA TURNER and his name was BENJAMIN P GLASCO. They were married in Clark County in October 1841. Their first four children were born in Clark County: Susan M Glasco - She married Isaac Newton Morford in Union County (my great grandparents) Mary J Glasco - She married David Allen Rea in Union County Anna Glasco - She married Joseph Anthony in Union County Sarah Glasco - She married Benjamin R Suddeth in Union County When they moved from Clark County to Union County they lived in Liberty and Taylor Twps. for the remainder of their lives. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO LYDIA TURNER'S PARENTS WERE. If I can locate them then I could start another family. I know nothing about the Turner Family. Benjamin Glasco is in the 1883 Beers Book. There is a small article on him but only mentioned that he married Lydia Turner. Also there is a picture of him. They both passed away in Union County and are buried in Baughan Cemetery in Liberty Twp. If you have any information to share I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Barbara

This method will find all the churches in all the county Histories at this site. I have not found a way to limit what it finds. Anyway if you enter this you will get an idea what it finds and is available. If you want to view items under one heading, just click on the blue internet link (the heading) to go there. With this search engine you can enter a surname and you will get every reference to this surname. I do not recommend this. I recommend entering the surname and the first name as it will reduce your search to this person's name only. But try entering different things and see what you get back. I entered one man's name and it came back with 9 different references in the civil war. It does not tell you exactly where it is located but you will know that it found him or her that many times. Then you have to go down and find the person -- and is the fun part. OR Go down to the index after History of Union Co, OH, 1883, opens. Find churches and go down to that page and there are the churches you can read about. Also search the index further on each part of History of Union Co OH 1883 and you may find more churches. Usually each township also has information on each church in that township. Hope this helps you and others on this list. Good luck. 1900 US Federal Census lists each of these families. There are three Liggett families and one O'harra. Would anyone know if a Grace Connors or a Bertha Liggett is related to these Liggetts? Also would anyone know if the O'harra's are related to O'hara's from Crawford or Marion Counties? Thanks. Charlene
Hello all, As you can tell, this message came through my OHIO mailing list.
