    1. [OHUNION] church records for Union Twp
    2. Searcher
    3. Are there any church membership records for churches in Union Twp. of Union Co.? In the 19th century history of Union Co. there was a Milford Presbyterian church still active at that date, and I wondered where the church records would be today. Richard

    3. I have a specific date of death in 1858 for a relative from a tombstone in Union Co., and I wondered if there would be any way to look up whether she left a will/estate, or whether there would be a newspaper notice of her death that might mention her children. The Union Co. website states: "The first paper in the county was issued at Marysville, February 20, 1830...the title Was changed to The Union Star...The (Union County) Star was continued until about the first of May, 1841, when the office was purchased by John Cassil, who changed the name of the paper to Union Gazette. Mr. Cassil was the editor and J. E. Wilson the printer. The paper, after the publication of a few numbers, was, in May, 1842, removed to Bellefontaine, and Thomas M. Robb became editor while this arrangement lasted. The paper was sent to Marysville each week and distributed to subscribers." The only newspaper I could find available on loan from OHS is the Marysville Argus starting in 5 / 10 / 1844. Richard

    2. Thanks for letting me know about the mistake. This just came with some more addresses so sending it out again. I wrote that the hobby was a fast growing one that was giving many more people pride in their country and ancestors and how much history we were learning and that this was our last resort in many cases to learn maiden names of women. Also emphasized what a handicap it was to so many of the new friends I have made who are housebound and on low budgets and that this will greatly decrease their ability to participate in their new found friendships and hobby. For those not knowing. President was spelled wrong in the one I sent before so unless you retyped it it bounced. 2. Jeanne I only show Joshua Spain married to Matilda Cowgill in union co OH in 1865. Maybe he got married to Hannah Orahood outside of union co OH, if in fact he did. You need to track Joshua on the 1870 census and see if the wife's name is different on the 1880 census. Then you can go from there if it is different. I went to my web site and looked at the 1880 census index for union co OH and Joshua is not on it. Good luck, Larry http://unioncoohio.homestead.com my union co OH help web site. visit it soon. +++++++++++++++++++ X-Message: #1 Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 10:52:36 -0700 From: "Jeanne Crews" <jcrews@eriecoast.com> To: OHUNION-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <000901c0fb44$1f7b5c20$fb6f1cd8@oemcomputer> Subject: [OHUNION] Joshua Spain & wife Hannah Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I just received information indicating that Joshua Spain was married to Hannah Orahood, daughter (I think) of Samuel Orahood. 1. [OHUNION] Union County Maps.. REVISED!
    2. Kelly Smith
    3. Wow, I posted; went to take a short nap; and came back to an overwhelming response! Upon further thought, I think the easiest way to do this is: Send me a large envelope addressed to yourself with 2 stamps attached. The map is JUST too big to fit in a normal, wide, letter envelope, so the common "Manilla Envelope" works just fine. Add an extra 2 stamps for each additional map. Again, The map shows what we think is EVERY Union County Road (excluding private driveways), the townships, and a city map of Marysville with a street index. 1. [OHUNION] Re: OHUNION-D Digest V01 #49 McIntire - Morford
    2. Barbara -- I find both spellings -- Mc Intire and Mc Intyre -- for females married in union county OH, with Mc Intire being prevalent. For males, Mc Intire is the only spelling. Just remember that when you get back into the older country, people wrote the name how it sounded. And the old country folks immigrating into the US, had old spellings like McIntyre that eventually changed to McIntire. In one of my lines, Bevelhymer, the name has been found spelled 24 different ways, and all descended from one good ole immigrant. Bevelheimer, Bevelhimer, Bevilhammer, Bevalhimer, Bevalhamer, -- you name it, it just keeps going. So don't give up on a name. If the names and ages of husband, wife, and kids, seem to match, but the name is a spelling variation, it is probably the same family. Even KARN, another of my lines, I have found in various documents -- KARN, Karns, carnes, karnes, whatever. The names, ages, and locations matched my existing data. And Rider -- Reiter, Reuter, Riter, Ritter, Retter. Rueter in Germany and in the German churches in the US, but Rider to the rest of the US. Another variation in Germany is Rueterer sometimes and sometimes not. At ancestry.com census 1790 to 1890 for Abraham Morford. 1850 MORFORD ABRAHAM Union County OH 255 Jerome Township Federal Population Schedule OH 1850 Federal Census Index OHS7a3778209 1830 MORFORD ABRAHAM Mason County KY 233 Western District Federal Population Schedule KY 1830 Federal Census Index KY559375940 1870 MORFORD ABRAHAM Westchester County NY 140 Rye Federal Population Schedule NY 1870 Federal Census Index NY30732092 1870 MORFORD ABRAHAM Washington County NE 479 Lincoln Precinct Federal Population Schedule NE 1870 Federal Census Index NE29924372 Have you checked the history of ohio 1883 for Abraham Morford? Look in Union and Madison counties. If you find him mentioned in a biography, it might tell the names of his wifes parents and where they were from, many do. Go to my web site, click on history of union county OH 1883. Then at that page scroll down a little bit until you see an arrow and Pico Search (read the instructions on how to do it), click on it. Then enter the surname you are looking for. Morford has no entries. However, McIntire and McIntyre have many entries. It may pay you to go down thru both of them and see if you find what you are looking for. It lists more counties than just union co OH. Hope this helps, Good Luck, Larry http://unioncoohio.homestead.com my union county OH help web site. visit it soon. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ X-Message: #1 Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2001 20:42:38 -0400 From: "Barbara J Scott" <beauty@zoomnet.net> To: OHUNION-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <000101c0ed58$6c82f2c0$581c20d0@beauty> Subject: [OHUNION] McIntire or McIntyre Family Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Everyone: I am trying to locate the family of Margaret McIntire or McIntyre. 3. Hi Everyone: I am trying to locate the family of Margaret McIntire or McIntyre. The index at the Marysville library didn't help me a whole lot. I have a death certificate of one of her family and it showed the name Margaret McIntyre. A member of my family thinks it is spelled McIntire. I begin to think that is correct. Margaret maried Abraham S Morford. They were married in Madison County. They spent most of their lives around New California area. John W Morford was one of their sons. He was in the Civil War and his name is on the Soldiers Monument in New California. They were members of the New California United Presbyterian Church. They are also buried there. I REALLY NEED HELP ON THIS FAMILY. The McIntire family would be my great great grandparents. I have been so lucky with the rest of my families. I think every Ell in Marysville is a relation. I am working on that family now. My great great grandmother Lydia was a Turner. Thanks to Mary Jean Turner Kuckelman and her book I can trace the Turner family back to mid 1700's from Ireland. I am not plugging any book, but if you are related to a Turner I am recommending this book. It sure has helped me. If you are interested and want information on how to get in touch with her let me know. The book sells for $60.00. If I can find information on the McIntire or McIntyre family I will have tracked all my great great grandparents in Union County. I am one of the lucky ones that most of my families all lived and stayed in Union County. Again thanks for your help. Barbara The Morford family I have been able to go to 1543 on them.
