Greetings listers, I know some of you have helped me with 1900 and 1880 cencus but I'm wondering if anyone has access to the 1850 Vinton County Cencus (don't know what's available on CD now). I am looking for Chester and Lucy French in Elk Twp in Vinton County. Chester should be about 39 and Lucy should be 37 both born in Conn. I'm interested in finding their children... and hoping they have a daughter named Charlotte about age 3. Chester appears on the 1875 platt map. His land boarders the east side of the town of McArther. Thanks, Kelly Smith Marysville, Ohio _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Brenda wrote: Would anyone have access to the readings from the Beard cemetery in Jerome twp? <snip> The WPA survey of cemeteries in Union County lists both the Ewing Cemetery and Beard Cemetery as if they are different. However, the directions given in that survey place them in the same approximate area. Although a recent county map I've consulted does show two cemeteries, that may be based on the older survey. No one in the area was able to direct me to the Beard Cemetery and almost no one knew where the Ewing Cemetery was either. The Darby-Jerome Townships Cemetery Records book available from the Union County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society does not list the Beard Cemetery, but only lists the Lower Liberty Presbyterian Church Cemetery (an alternate name of the Ewing Cemetery). This cemetery was the burial place of Samuel B. Beard, a Civil War veteran, and I think a likely reason why this cemetery was probably also known as the Beard Cemetery. When I visited it last year, the Samuel B. Beard marker was gone with only the foot marker "S.B.B." remaining. The other markers I read are posted at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohunion/cem/jeew.html If anyone has additional information, please let me know. Thanks. Robert Bremer bremerr@oclc.org
Would anyone have access to the readings from the Beard cemetery in Jerome twp? Thanks, Brenda
I found a lot of McCampbells and Beards in Union county. Margaret Beard, I think is the widow of Dickey Beard. She is listed in Jerome twp, in the 1850 census. With daughters Catherine and Margaret A. All born in VA. Also Andrew Beard. I have a lot more about the McCampbells and Beards..... Brenda, OKC
Kelly: Have you been able to find anything further on any estate for the individual I was looking for who died in Union Co. in 1858? I have not heard from you since July 1. I know you mentioned that there was considerable construction going on at the courthouse. Let me know if I should write direct to the courthouse. Richard

Does anyone know if there are more than one funeral home in Richwood? Seeking the burial place of David Oliver SILVERTHORN, b: 9 June 1827 and died in Union Co. on 2 April 1903. We found an old clipping recently which states that funeral services were conducted at his residence by a Rev. Thomas, and that he was buried in Claibourne Cemetery. People have told me that his name and that of his wife, Martha Ann LETHERBERRY are not found anywhere on the Union Co. cemetery index. Perhaps the funeral home would have old records? Also, does anyone know what church a Rev. Thomas was affiliated with? Thanks so much. Jean Silverthorne
Will the person researching the Lewis family of Champaign/Union counties, OH please contact me? I may have some info for you. Ila

Sandy – I checked my 1850 census index OH – no Bertruchi Also not in the 1880 OH census index. I checked marriages in union co OH, 1820 to 1900 – no Bertruchi. I checked my paid ancestry.com site – Oregon Death Index, 1903-98 Name: Bertruchi, George Lew County: Multnomah Death Date: 31 Jul 1978 Certificate: 78-12061 Spouse: Miriam Birth Date: 07 May 1902 Soc Sec Death Index – GEORGE BERTRUCHI SSN 478-20-4598 Residence: 97211 Portland, Multnomah, OR Born 7 May 1902 Last Benefit: not given Died Jul 1978 Issued: IA (Before 1951) At the LDS site I found the following -- only one Bertruchi – George, above on SSDI. I found a few Bertuchi – 1. Antonio CASELLA BERTUCHI - International Genealogical Index \ SE Gender: M Birth: 1856 , Italy 2. Antonio CASELLA BERTUCHI - International Genealogical Index \ SE Gender: M Marriage: 1885 , Italy 3. Maria BERTUCHI - International Genealogical Index \ SE Gender: F Marriage: 1850 , Italy 4. Maria BERTUCHI - International Genealogical Index \ SE Gender: F Birth: 1835 , Italy Found a Bertrucci 1. Nicolaus BERTRUCCI - International Genealogical Index \ SE Gender: M Birth: Abt. 1370 Of, Italy I checked under several spelling variations – bertruchi, bertoche (France), bertuchi and Bertrucci (Italy), but with no dates it is hard to look for them. I looked under Mary Toddhunter and got back many names with some of them having the possibility of being her. Both Toddhunter and Todhunter came back. But Bertruchi is not common. I imagine the surname before George above had abusive spelling and is why we cannot find it now. Got many back for Bertucci. Does not look like this is much help. Hi list, Pulling out all stops and need your help. Have been researching surname BERTRUCHI all over Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa. Time is off the essence as the family member wanting closure is ailing very quickly. She is close to 90 years and has just suffered several more strokes, and isn't expect to live much longer. She never knew anything about her husbands family and thus I am trying to help and now enlisted your help. Gr. Lewis born in Cook Co, Illinois the s/o of Mary Toddhunter and Joseph Henry BERTRUCHI. Sometime lived in Steubenville, Ohio. Family story says due to a bad train accident both parents were killed (it is presumed this happened sometime around 1910-1920), and Gr. Lewis left Steubenville. His social security application is filed with Oxford Junction, Jones Co, Iowa in 1942. He is buried in the Porland, Oregon area; where his wife is ailing. tHANKS sANDY
Listers, I was doing a look-up for someone else when I stumbled upon the name Ingmire among the Union County records. My great-great grandmother was Ella Ingmire but she was from Van Wert County, and her family was from Hocking County (immigrated from Ann Arundel County Maryland). I thought I didn't have any family here in Union County, but seems I do (or at least did). In fact, Bernard Ingmire, Chief of Staff of the Marysville Hospital in the 1950s was the nephew of my great-great grandmother. There was also a George Ingmire who was brother to Ella's father. Also, In the very first issue of the Gen Soc. Newsletter (1981) there is a quarry from a Fern Dierkes about the Ingmires and Jacksons (2 Ingmire brothers married 2 Jackson sisters). Has anyone heard of Fern Dierkes? I'm cautious to write to her as the address is 20 years old. Also, does anyone have any info or connection to the Ingmire/Jackson family? Very Surprised, Kelly Smith Marysville, Ohio _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Ahlive, Have you looked in Ancestry? If not, I will be glad to do so. Need middle name if available and , parents any other names you know. Shirley Newbold newbolds@home.com-----------------
Ahlive- HOYT, William S is not listed as being buried in any union co OH cemetery. That does not mean he is not buried in one of them. One cemetery was mostly bulldozed to remove trees and at the same time removed and destroyed many grave markers. Vandalism takes its toll also. Plus mowers not careful when mowing the grass can take a toll on markers, especially the older, thinner, more fragile ones. I have seen them chipped, broken, and upset, from careless mowers running into them. The Marysville OH newspaper is on microfilm located in the genealogy section of the Marysville library. But since you do not know the date it would take someone eons to look this up. If someone, like Mrs Bouic, has already extracted this info from the film, then she would have it. Maybe she has published it in a book that would be on the shelf in the Marysville library, genealogy section. They all have a red binder. In union co OH, there is no Marysville Twp. I imagine it said Marysville on the census, but Marysville OH is in Paris twp. If you go to my help web site, click on 1880 census index, go down to horr_ina, click on it, then go down to Hoyt, William S, you will see he is in Paris twp, on page 96B. There are five Hoyt listed in the index. The only Hoyt listed as buried in union co OH, Elijah is buried in Jerome twp, New California cemetery. This is info on known veteran graves from court house records made during the WPA projects. I would suggest putting this same query on all the rootsweb county lists for counties bordering union co OH, and see what kind of response you get. People on these lists are very helpful. Maybe someone on one of them will be able to help you. The GenResearch sites is not on line at the moment, or I would suggest you go there and put in a query at all the different counties. I do not know why they are off line, but they have been off line now for over a month. If you have a FHC near you, go there and order the death index for union co OH to cover the years you suspect he may have died in. Then after it arrives, go down thru it and see if you can find him. It will take a lot of work on your part to find him. It makes it hard to help you when you do not give any dates when you put an inquiry on here. At least you could have given his about birth date from the 1880 census you found. I went to my ancestry.com subscription site and found this info. I do not have any dates and cannot verify if it the right man or not. HOYT in the 1880 census - Union County - Marysville Township. I strongly believe he died there and is buried there or closeby - - his wife is in the 1900 census in another state - died there and is buried alone. Her name was LUCY A. HOYT and she was also listed in the Union County 1880 census. Since there is no 1890 census I cannot pinpoint when he actually died to request records. They were both physicians - not the MD's as we know them but more along the homeopathic/alternative area. If he was buried outside of the county would there perhaps be an obituary in the local papers there? Can anyone offer any suggestions to pinpoint the death? Would really appreciate some help- thank you - Ahlive

Richard - When asking for information, you should always give as much info as possible. There are volunteers who do look ups, but with no name or anything it is impossible to give you specific information on this person. If you go to my union co OH help web site, go down to Research facilities for ..., click on it. Go down to Union Co Probate Court. This is the address for you to write to and inquire if they have a will or an estate file on this person. Ask for a copy of each page in it. Give them all the information you have on this person - name at time of death, date of birth, married to whom, death date and place if known. They will look and see if they have a file on her. If they do you will get a letter from them in about one or two months stating how much money for you to send them - 50 cents per page copied. You send them the money and they will send you the information. If they do not have any info on her, you will not receive anything back from them. As far as members of a church, go to my help web site, click on History of Union Co OH 1883. Then go down to Township Histories. I think you said Union Twp, click on it. It has everything that happened in Union Twp. Go down to churches and you will see some churches list the members. Under Union Twp you will also see there are biographical sketches. Go down thru them, they are in alpha order by surname, and see if she is in it. Remember she may be living with a child or remarried, I do not know anything about her. I do free lookups of marriages 1820 to 1900 and burials up to 1984 in union co OH. If you had mentioned a name I might have been able to help you a little more. Have you found her on the 1850 census? Was she still married then or was her husband dead? Was she living with a child? The union co genealogy society has most of the Marysville newspapers on microfilm in the genealogy section of the Marysville OH library. Maybe one of the volunteers might volunteer to look up this person since you have the exact date of death. All they would need is a name. Maybe someone will contact you by e-mail. Hope this helps. You may be trying to track the Darby Seceder/Associate Presbyterian Church. The Library in Marysville has a publication which abstracts the meetings at that church between 1826 and 1878. It is page indexed by names. I looked it up a couple of years ago (when we visited Union Co, OH) when I was trying to find information about my Boal/Mitchell ancestors of Union County Ohio. The name of the church became the Unionville United Presbyterian Church (ref. Beers History of Union County Ohio, Vol2 page 234). The church records have passed to New California United Presbyterian Church. You might try contacting Rev. Phillip Bougher c/o of that church. The address is: 10089 Industrial Parkway, Marysville, OH 43040.
