1. Re: [OHUNION] Missing probate records for Union Co.
2. GenealogyBug
3. Union County has probate records dating from 1820, the year it became a county. The county was formed from parts of Delaware, Franklin, Logan, and Madison counties. Delaware County was divided off from Franklin County in 1808, and Franklin was formed in 1803 from Ross County and unorganized territory. Logan was formed from Champaign County in 1818 and Champaign was derived from Franklin and Greene counties in 1805. Madison County was taken from Franklin County in 1810. The common denominator here is Franklin County and that's where I'd start my search for pre-1820 Union County probate records. And if the ancestor died before 1803 I'd try Ross County. As I recall, there was a fire in the Franklin County Courthouse that destroyed some of the early records, but it's always worth a try. An excellent place to find all sorts of information is Carol Willsey Bell, OHIO WILLS AND ESTATES TO 1850: AN INDEX (Columbus, Ohio, 1981 by the author). This book cites entries for records no longer in existence and contains other extremely helpful information. I hope this helps Happy hunting! 3. Hi Richard, In Sept. & Oct. 1999 I visited the Probate Court of Union Co., at the Marysville court house and searched ALL their OLD books that are just laying there for public viewing. I found the 1890s immigration documents on my SCHOENLEB ancestors from Germany. I also found my paternal ancestors birth records too, which were also from the 1800s. 1. [OHUNION] McCawley, Hawkins, Snodgrass, Davis, Stewart, Darling
2. Hi all, Things that might be of interest or help to you. March 30, 1875 Marysville Tribune (microfilm #47116, from The Ohio Historic Society Library) OBITUARY DIED On the 27th of March, 1875, Mrs. Hattie McCawley, in her 61st years. She spent her whole life near where she was born in Millcreek township, Union county, Ohio. She was always ready to give a helping hand to all her neighbors in sickness and distress. She was truly a most useful, kind and good woman, and was justly entitled and fully enjoyed the confidence, love and respect of all her neighbors. She had been expecting her release from earth for some time, for pulmonary consumption had been doing its slow and steady work for two years. During her suffering was not heard to complain for a moment, but remained very cheerful and gave the most hearty assurance of continual peace. As she approached her dying hour she spoke with rapture of her prospect of meeting her loved ones in heaven. In her death her husband is left to deplore the loss of a truly kind and loving wife. Her children have been deprived of a kind, affectionate and indulgent mother, and her memory will long be remembered and cherished by all who knew her as an inspiring example for those that succeed her. ----------- Side comment also photo copied Mrs. Hawkins and Miss V. Snodgrass design opening a millinery and dress making establishment in the old post office building on the he south side of center street, opposite Union Block. Searching Family Stories with Sandy
