1. [OHUNION] R C Company - Marysville
2. Barbara J Scott
3. Hi Everyone: I am working on the Ell family. My great grandfather Conrad William Ell (known as William) worked for a R C Co. Does anyone have any information on this R C Co. I have a picture of him with two of his fellow workers. Everything that I have on him refers to him as an "engineer". His family lived at 251 N. Cherry Street. This information was in a Marysville Directory, however, I was not smart enough to write the date down. Anything anyone can do would be greatly appreciated. I would very much like to join the Pioneers Club on several of my families but it is going to take time. Thanks again. Barbara

3. If you e-mailed me asking for a copy of the 1931 photo of the West Mansfield Social Society and I didn't respond, please write to me again. I got an e-mail this morning with that in the subject. This particular e-mail had an attachment. When I tried to look at the e-mail (NOT the attachment), I got an error message that said that the program had performed an illegal action and would be closed. Not sure why this happened. I know that if you send a message with stationery, it sometimes looks like there's an attachment. So please send your request in simple text. Jeanne

DON'T DO THAT!!! ALL Union County Birth and Death records before 1908 and all marriage records are still housed at the Court House, (and on microfilm at the library). I think non-certified copies at the Court House are 25 cents, and copies off the microfilm at the library are 10 cents. The Ohio Historical Society charges $1 and it could take months to get a reply. It is much easier and quicker to contact the Court House for a copy, OR I will hapily do any birth/marriage/death lookup within a week. 1. [OHUNION] Genealogy in Marysville OH
2. Hi List -- I visited Marysville, OH library this summer and found a few interesting things I had not discovered on my visit in 1998. Back in the corner of the library is the genealogy corner. It has several obituary notebooks on the desk in it. One of two have an index -- the rest do not. One has some older ones in it. The newer ones are all the way up to about year 2000. The obits are placed in the notebooks in alphabetical order by death surnames. You can look thru them at a table near a copy machine (there are two of them) and make a copy of a page when you find names you are searching for. All of the Union Echoes are back in the corner also on the opposite side of the room from the desk, at about eye level or a little higher. The Bouic books are no longer red books. They are revising the books and updating the info contained within. They are up to about R now and are much more legible than the older books. The new books have a blue cover. They are a must see if you don't have much time and visit the library. The books are in alpha order by surname. There are about 25 books, maybe more - I did not count them. They can help you link more families than you realize. They code sources so you can go to the source and look for more detailed info. Across the street from the court house is the deed office. If you go upstairs to the auditors office, door on the left facing it from the hallway, enter and the books to look at are on the left. These books contain land plat maps of your ancestors back into the early 1800s. If you find a map with info you want, an employee can make a copy for you. Not sure of the cost per copy. These books contain info on how many acres they bought, from whom, when, whether the land was tillable, woods, or pasture, and the cost per acre. How about $19 an acre back in the early 1900s? Wow. But they did not have as much money then either. If they lived in town, if gives the lot number, acreage, location and address, just what a genealogist likes to know. If you find the location, sometimes you can go find the property and take a picture of what it looks like now. Nice to compare what it looked like in 1920 and what it looks now. And then the normal other things are still available in Marysville Ohio. You can go downstairs in the deed building and look in the index books to find where your ancestors bought and sold land in union co OH. These books are very heavy so don't have a bad back when you go in there looking for info. Back in one of the corners are large township land plat maps telling who lived on a piece of land and how many acres is in the plat and how it is situated. You can spend eons of time in this place and never get finished looking, depending on how many ancestors you have in union county. It is so much fun finding this kind of info. Of course, the court house is a must visit also. It is under construction at this time but should be opening up soon. They are adding a wing to the side of it. It really looks great from the outside. They still have ALL of the birth, death, and marriage records in books on the shelves. And there is a computer where you can enter a name to see if a person had a will, a probated estate or will, or a custodial or guardian record. If there is a record listed, you can write down the case number, give it to a clerk, who will get the file for you. You can look through the file and if you want a copy of any page they will make you a copy for 50 cents. You can visit the Union County Health Dept., behind the hospital near the emergency room entrance, and in its own building. They have birth and death certificates for anyone who was born or died in union county. Of course, like anything else, this is not inclusive for some of the older documents. But if they don't have the one you are looking for, you can order it from the Ohio Historical Society click in Columbus, Ohio. The cost for a copy of a birth or death certificate is 25 cents, and can be obtained by mail order or by e-mail -- see link at my web site. Good luck in your search for information. The fun is in the chase. Larry http://unioncoohio.homestead.com My Union County, OH, genealogy help web site. Visit it soon.
