Gary Since Kelly did not respond to the list, which would have been helpful, would you share with us, where the Cemetery is located. Thanks to Kelly Smith who responded to my query on the Union County board, I have found the cemetery.
I have death certificates for two members of my family who died in Union County. The writing on the certificate is difficult to read, but it looks like they are buried in Garwood Cemetery. Can anyone help me with the location or suggest what the name might be? Thank you in advance for your help!
Would anyone on the list happen to know what denomination or church that a Rev. Thomas was affiliated with in 1903? We found an old obit of Dave SILVERTHORN who died 2 April 1903. Apparently the funeral was conducted from the home. It states that he was buried in the Claiborne Cemetery, but there is no record of this burial in the index. Thank you. Jean Silverthorne

Hi Everyone I was wondering if anyone out there might know the address of: The New California United Presbyterian Church New California, Ohio I need to write them a letter about my Morford family. My Great Great Uncle served in the Civil War. His name is on the Soldier's Monument. He was baptised at New California United Presbyterian Church when he was two years old. He was born 1839 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. I just found out that he moved several times but ended up in Richmond Kansas and died in 1923. His name is John W. Morford. Also, the reason why I wanted this information is to show my Morford Family was in Union County before the end of the 1840's. My great grandfather was born in 1847 in Plain City. Thanks. Barbara

My apologies to those of you who use Netscape as your browser. (Everything was OK with Internet Explorer.) I just discovered the page with the table of counties in Ohio http://www.poorhousestory.com/poorhouses_in_ohio.htm was not working well with that browser. If you tried to go there and got only a tiny bit of info at the top of the page ... and nothing else ... please return there and click RELOAD to see the full page. Sorry about the inconvenience. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com Hoooray! Now we get Union County out of the tan -- the color code for Ohio counties for which we have absolutely no information. We just posted an image of a picture postcard of the UNION County Infirmary (poorhouse). But that is so far the ONLY information we have. Anybody out there know more about the history of the infirmary or its records or cemetery? We have a bit of a puzzle here: This image looks so familiar to me that I am sure I have seen it before ... like, it is identical to one built elsewhere. But what bothers me is the possibility that this has been mislabeled. Can anyone absolutely confirm that this IS what the old infirmary looked like? DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on OHIO on the table of states, and finally on UNION on the table of counties. If you have been to the website recently you may have to click REFRESH or RELOAD on the browser to see the new information. There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

There's a lot of Ohioians on other lists, and someone just might spot a familiar name in Lance's list. Lance has about 24 more Masonic Lodge members to find. Let's see if we can help him!! Thanks so much for everyone's help. Good luck Lance! Bob, You're very welcome. I'm still digging through the online records. Found a Harold Bishop listed, but doesn't seem to "fit" my lost one. :-(( I surely hope that someone has some good luck with the site. Happy hunting to everyone.
